Part actual question, part amusing anecdote.

My firend was talking to her boss about a guy they know called Nigel.

Boss: you know what I thought the other day?
Friend: No, what?
Boss: Nigel's parents named a baby Nigel.
Friend: ... What?
Boss: WHo looks at a baby and thinks 'Nige'

I mostly jus thought that was funny, particularly as they had been talking about stock taking at the time. But it did get me thinking, do you think you would ever fall into the trap of naming a baby rather than a person?

Also, I often see people in this community advising against a name because they don't think the kid could grow up with it - does it work the other way around? Would you advise against a name because you couldn't see it on a little kid?

Some are my favorite names, some are taken from the spanish list and some are taken from a list I made of names off of the top 1000 for 1880. All of them are listed as names on some website or another. (some are odd I know)

http://www.babynames.com/namelist/9589404

Any suggestions welcome. I like names that are uncommon but not too unusual. I will use I trendy name if I like it enough for a middle name.

My favs in case anyone has forgotten:

Lilah Adelle
Penelope Rose
Chloe Jane
Eirene

Julian David
Corey(Cornelius)
Harvey
Gene

Girls names are really hard for me. I want this name to be perfect. My best friend, Melissa often tells me I have a "name for the week".

The middle name is going to be Michelle - that's already decided. We love it, and it will also honor my step-father Michael. But while the name is half chosen already, the quest for the "perfect name" is never ending.

I always hated Alysha - and I've gone by Ally for as long as I can remember. I like the name now, and go by it professionally - but I do also remember being a kid. Being surrounded by Jennifers, Jessicas, Meghans, Carries, etc. We had 4 Meghan's in my first grade class! My mother picked names that she though would be unique but not too out there and I think she did a good job.

The top four girls names are: Ava, Elisabeth, Sabrina, and Chloe. Grant, my hubby wants to veto Ava - which leaves me really upset because it's the name that I really like.

But I run into names that I like every day - and it's hard for me to not add them to the ever-growing list of "possibles". :) EG. Carmella, Danielle, Rosalie, Ella, Audrey, etc etc etc.

So, the quest continues... the boy name is equally hard. Especially with a husband who is insisting the boy be named "John". :) (no offense to any John's out there - but come on... the most common name for 75 years, according to the Social Security office.)

I was in town today and met someone i used to go to school with. She now has a baby daughter and her name is Italee. "It's like the country, but we spelt it with the double 'E' to make it different" she said. I just smiled and commented on how cute the baby was.
But wow, now i don't mind some place names, but that's just bad imo.

I met another baby who's name was Tiylor (a girl), pronounced Tyler.

So - right after I post that blog about how difficult it is to name our child - and how much we have been disagreeing, we finally come up with our PERFECT BOYS NAME.

I guess we must have just been thinking really hard about what would be good - and suddenly we were in synch.

Dylan Thomas Hazzard

It's traditional enough to make Grant (my hubby) happy - and it's not too plain for me. I was aiming for Dylan because of Bob Dylan, and Grant suggested Dylan Thomas because of the poet.

It was one of those MOMENTS - where everything clicked. Hopefully we have a good experience like that for when we choose our girl name once and for all.

I was watching BBC World about an hour ago and on came a man whose children were called Madison and Cole.
I though that was alright at first but then he said his son was called Madison and his daughter was Cole.

I love the name Madison and it's alright on a boy but I like it better on girls.
I think Cole on a girl is horrid!

WDYT?

So I was walking down the street today to do some grocery shopping, and on the way to the store some guy offers me a flyer, and i usually ignore it, but I just took it today. I look at what it is and it's for a hair stylist named Jessifer.

IMO that's a very unfortunate name...

Baby #3

We have both a boy and a girl now and are expecting baby number 3 in July.

Our boy is Alexander "Xander".
Our girl is Kiera.

We don't know if it's a boy or girl yet but we've tried to have both names picked out just in case. . .

We've pretty much decided on a girl name but the boy name is really proving to be a challenge. This baby almost needs to be a girl just because we have no boy name! There are so many things to consider with a 3rd baby!

I want to make sure that the three sound good as a sibset.
If it's a boy it needs to match Alexander in class, but Xander in originality.
The name (or nickname) should have 2 syllables

For a girl we've pretty much decided on Kamber. I also like Kemma but we have a little cousin named Emma. Hubby likes Kamber better anyways.

I'll post the boy names we've both agreed on, but none of them are really just perfect. And they don't match all of the criteria that we've set up for them.

We like:
Nathaniel "Nate"
Gabriel "Gabe"
Gavin
Elijah
Harrison

We also like Royston - but I have an uncle, a cousin and a second cousin all named Royce.

I'm going crazy trying to come up with a boy name!
