We have both a boy and a girl now and are expecting baby number 3 in July.
Our boy is Alexander "Xander".
Our girl is Kiera.
We don't know if it's a boy or girl yet but we've tried to have both names picked out just in case. . .
We've pretty much decided on a girl name but the boy name is really proving to be a challenge. This baby almost needs to be a girl just because we have no boy name! There are so many things to consider with a 3rd baby!
I want to make sure that the three sound good as a sibset.
If it's a boy it needs to match Alexander in class, but Xander in originality.
The name (or nickname) should have 2 syllables
For a girl we've pretty much decided on Kamber. I also like Kemma but we have a little cousin named Emma. Hubby likes Kamber better anyways.
I'll post the boy names we've both agreed on, but none of them are really just perfect. And they don't match all of the criteria that we've set up for them.
We like:
Nathaniel "Nate"
Gabriel "Gabe"
Gavin
Elijah
Harrison
We also like Royston - but I have an uncle, a cousin and a second cousin all named Royce.
I'm going crazy trying to come up with a boy name!

Kamber sounds quite made-up.

Date: 2008-02-25 05:27 am (UTC)Kamber I actually heard in my pediatrician's office. I thought it was cute and original. But yes it does sound a bit made up. . . but only because I've never heard it before - probablly the same for you.
i love Topher Grace but I've always thought the name sounded kinda goofy. . . in a good way. . . but not in a way I would name my baby ^_~

Date: 2008-02-25 05:40 am (UTC)If you try and google search it all you get is last names and if you search for it anywhere on any babyname sites it never comes up. So it's in use as an uncommon last name. If anything, the person in the doctor's office either made it up or named the baby after someone.
I'd use Kimber instead but that's just me.

I'm really ok with it being "made up"
Just makes it that much more unique :)

Date: 2008-02-25 05:25 am (UTC)If the first reason and the last don't convince you, the second really has too. Kamber and Xander, really, they rhyme a lot.
Andd, I really like the names Gavin, Harrison, and Royston if it's a boy. Royston isn't that much like Royce.
I love Royston.

Date: 2008-02-25 05:38 am (UTC)Xander, Kiera, Kamber - It flows so nicely ;)
The girls start with K because my name does. . . while Xander was named after his daddy :) I doubt there would be any hard feelings there ^_^

Date: 2008-02-25 05:34 am (UTC)I like Kamber with Kiera much better than Kemma. Also, Kemma is making me think of Gemma and chemistry.
Apparently, I'm expecting a small zombie rather than a human, because my baby has eaten my brain, making it impossible to think of any other names at the moment. Which is too bad, because I like your naming style and would like to be useful. I'll come back when I have two brain cells to rub together.

Date: 2008-02-25 06:30 am (UTC)You mentioned below that you like Zachary. I knew a little girl (she's probably 12 or 13 now) named...okay, I can't remember how she spelled it, but it was a lot like Zachary (Zachari, maybe), but pronounced zeh-CAHR-ee. She went be Cari (CAHR-ee) for short.
My powers of concentration are what're shot, for me. I can't deal poker, meditate, or read anything but the lightest of light (and preferably smutty) fiction.

You and others missed the whole point of the post. . . It was about BOY names!
But thank you for the boy suggestions. I like Julian but can't convince hubby of that one :)

Date: 2008-02-25 07:47 am (UTC)Anyhow, I'm not sure about boy names. Boy names .. are harder than girl names to me.
But I like Gabriel (my cousin's name!) and Elijah. :)
What about Elias? I like that too.

Gavin was my top choice for my first daughter if she'd been a boy but it has become way too popular IMO.

Date: 2008-02-25 03:55 pm (UTC)As for other suggestions:
Tobias; 'Toby'
Christopher; 'Topher' (Chris is less original...and doesn't have two syllables ;))
Leonard; 'Leo'
Giovanni; 'Gio' (might be a bit too out there, but who knows =))
Harder than I thought! If I think of any other ones, I'll comment again. Good luck!

Date: 2008-02-26 01:59 am (UTC)i'm not a big fan of Kamber, though, honestly. Kimber isn't bad, nor is Amber, just not smooshed together lol. but, if you and the hubby like it, that is what matters!
