So my best friend's boyfriend is convinced that Glass is a beautiful name for a girl. My friend basically told him it was a stupid emo name. I'm not a fan, either. I'm really not a fan of any name that sounds like "ass," though.
I appreciate everyone who took the time to cast their vote in my recent poll. Thanks.
Finn River Holden Wyatt
Finn beat out the others. Holden & Wyatt were almost a tie last i checked. Only problem was i told my fiance how the poll went and he was upset i didn't include his favorite name pick on there.
Oliver
All the names on the poll we agreed on but Oliver we didn't. I'm very 'eh' about it. Its a cute enough name but not something i want to call my child for the rest of its life. Plus he wants Ollie as a nickname. I just can't imagine a teenage boy liking a nickname like that...
So anyway, HE would like to know what everyone thinks of it.
Every year, my city's paper runs an issue featuring almost every baby born in the city the previous year. Because I'm a dork, and I clearly have nothing better to do with my time (like essays or reading, say), I add up all the names and get the stats, to see which are the most popular names in my city that year. So when I get the results for 2007, I'll post 'em here. :D
For now, here are the announcements from today's paper:

south asian name-- pronounced MAAR-YAH Originally it's supposed to be spelled Maria But of course in English that's pronounced completely differently I had a friend who had her name spelled Maria and by the time she got married she had it changed to Maariya. I intend to use the name Marya for my daughter-- if I ever have one =] Any middle name suggestions?
And my brother and his wife are letting me get naming rights if they have a child. I said I would only name it if it was a boy. My favorite option is Faizan [fay-zaan] Muhammad Alam [aah-luhm]
Since you are all so good at this, please help me! What middle name goes well with Hazel? I'm open to anything except Ellen or variants thereof (it's for a character in something I'm writing and Ellen is the sister's name). Thank you!
Shaquille O'Neal's children (he is Muslim, and these are all Arabic names, or variations): Taahirah Shareef Amirah Shaqir (also said this one is Australian) Me'arah
Good Evening ! Its Saturday and I'm trapped at home, so here is my challenge for anyone interested. Below you will find my boy name list. Now, please know that my list is huge because I collect with the intent of having at least five names for each letter of the alphabet. Some of these names I would never use on a real person and some I would never really use at all (but needed them to meet my five name goal). I would really be interested in any first/middle name combinations you thing "work." I've posted my favorites before, but I am always looking for new inspiration. Any ideas would be a plate of cookies!
I realize the top 20 will most likely change during the rest of the year, but I thought it was interesting anyway!
I just found them on this site. It has lists of popular/traditional/etc. names of several countries, and name lists of special categories including perfume names (wtf!) and 'soccer' names. Yeah, ok. I thought it was interesting, and you might find something new to like! (or just something crazy).
My hubby I and have been talking lots about babies lately... and of course what we'd name one.
So, here is our list! You can also leave any comments here if you'd like. We had a hard time with some middle names. John is a family name, so we tried to go with that for the boys a lot. Let me know if you have any suggestions other than what we put there. Thanks!!
Is it me, or is that a serious bunch of awr-awr sounds?
I like Aurora, it's the word for 'sunrise' in italian (and Alba, also a name, is 'dawn'). But here it's pronounced Ah-oo-RAW-rah. And our 'r's don't roll, so it's nice and smooth.
I, too, am a fan of rainbows, but if I were to include it in a kid's name, I'd go for a more subtle way, for example finding a name that has it in its meaning.
I was at lunch today, and a family had a little boy named Divine. I thought it might have been De-VON at first, but nope. Not sure of the exact spelling, but they spoke it exactly like the word Divine. And believe me, in the South there is a distinct way of saying it.
I wish I could remember his sister's name, because it was odd too, but I can't think of it for the life of me. I just remember it sounded made up.
