Hubby and I have been going back and forth on names. We decided that we like Elisabeth for a girl and Jack for a boy.

We told this to a few family members and OF COURSE his sister has to say,

"You mean, like in Pirates of the Carribean?"

*facepalm*

UGH!!!!! I was so miffed - and felt stupid at the same time.

Pfft, I don't know why you'd feel stupid, they're both really common (not in a bad way) names, so I can see why you wouldn't catch that. :P

I prefer Elizabeth to Elisabeth since I read Elisabeth like E-leeza-bet, but I suppose it's better than something like MacKenzye.

Those names are so popular that I doubt everyone will make those assumptions. Most people will just assume that you liked the names, not that you named them after Pirates of the Caribbean characters. Now if you named them Kiera and Johnny, you might have a problem, but Jack and Elisabeth aren't exactly uncommon names, or names that are unique to that movie. I wouldn't have made that connection and I love those movies.

dont worry about it-- by the time your kids grow up PotC will be a thing of the past. People they work with wont be like "OH. JUST LIKE THOSE MOVIES THAT WERE RELEASED 25 YEARS AGO!"

Elizabeth/Elisabeth is a timeless name. People will rarely think of Pirates of the Caribbean when they hear that name. Obviously his sister doesn't know how many characters in books and people in history have had that name. Don't worry about it. If you google the name, you'll find many people of all backgrounds with that name.

Both good names. ANY two names could probably be found paired in some movie, book, TV show etc...
