Alright, this is my first time on here, and of course I found this through spotlight as most others did. I'm only 17, so I'm a little young to be thinking about baby names, but that's okay, because dosn't everyone have lists starting at, like, 5? Also, I pretty much know I'm going to be wtih my boyfriend for the rest of my life... we are planning to get married a year or so after college. We're going to schools on opposite coasts, so it will be hard, but I think we'll make it... anyway, that has nothing to do with the names, so here they are:

GIRLS:

Aurora. The boyfriend thinks its too cliche, because we live in Alaska, but I think its a beautiful name. Plus, I could call her Rory, which is the name of a family friend who is also a singer/songwriter/painter/actor/all-around cool guy. He's been such an inspiration in my life, and to my whole town (I live in a very small place), and I want my daughter to be just as creative and well rounded as he is.

Alana. The protaganist in my favorite series of books as a child, and also the name of one of the girls in the kindergarten class I work in. I have pretty much decided that if I have a daughter someday, I want it to be this girl.

Sofia. My best friend until about second grade, she was the first child I met (we were born 15 days apart). I have always thought her name was beautiful, and she's a pretty incredible person. I would definitely have no qualms about naming my child this, although possibly as a middle name instead.

Artemis. If she wouldn't get teased incessantly for it, I would love to name a child Artemis. I think its a beautiful name, and plus the whole idea of this beautiful and pure hunt-goddess is a lovely image.

Serena. I just love this name. I think, though, that it would be practically impossible for any child of mine to be serene in any way... so maybe it wouldn't fit too well.

BOYS:

Noah. A character in one of my stories, I just fell in love with the boy's personality. Of course, naming a kid after a character puts a little pressure on the kid to be like the character, or might make them feel like they aren't as important as the character... plus the character is gay, and I wouldn't want to influence his sexuality.

Clearly I want a girl. If I have more than one boy, I guess I'm screwed!

Hi All,
I'm new to this community, but when I was flicking through what people were thinking about naming their children, I couldn't help but be dazzled by the things people have thought up.
There are heaps of cool names out there and things like Blade, Slasher and Alexzandrina all sound fantastic in theory.
I was however, faintly concerned about weather or not you'd actually considered the impact of naming your child these types of things. Awesome thought they sound now, children are cruel, and I'd suspect that by the time your hapless offspring reach their adolecence, their self confidence is going to be around slug level, and in my opinion they'll either kill themselves or, in a fit of rebellion, change their name to something along the lines of Frank, or Rachel.
I don't mean any insult, and I'm sure you all mean well, but for now I have to say I'm glad my name isn't Aztec Rosalitha.

(Mods, if you find this outside the boundaries of acceptable posts, I am more than willing to delete it and leave the community)

I just joined today. It was listed in the spotlight and I like looking at different names for kids.

I don't have kids yet, but I want some one day....

On my mom's side of the family all the daughters have their mom's middle name for their middle name. I have my mom's-I'm Sarah Elizabeth, cousins have their mom's-Amy Diane, Lauren Shrese

So here's what I was thinking:
Girls:
Skye
Alexis
Natasha
Malissa(my late great grandmother's name)

Boys:
I can't recall them right off the top of my head.

I'm writing because I'm really pregnant & trying to decide on a boy's name for this one (we're planning to use the girl's name we picked last time, but didn't get to use!)

We're still trying to use Craig, my father's name, as a middle name, but we can't agree on a first name.

I'm down to Tristan or Ian, but Gavin keeps popping up in my mind. My hubby doesn't really seem enthusiastic about any of them, though. Grr.

Any other ideas? We're trying to grab something Gaelic (hubby's Irish), two-syllable, and not starting with a *C* or *K* sound (no Connor or Kieran), as they don't go with Craig.

Ideas?

Hello.
To start off with, my name is Ayla Cherie [Ayla pronounced like the letter "A" and then "la" and "Cherie" as the french word, as in mon cherie.}
I would recommend to anyone to give their child a unique name. I've never met another Ayla [in real life] & my unusual name has definately added an aspect to my life that I'm sure my parents never anticipated. I love it.

Second, my reason for posting has nothing to do with my name. My sister, Nicole, is married to a man named Nick. Two years ago, they had an adorable baby boy whom, after Nick's wishes, became Nicholas II. Now, my sister is pregnant again and due in August. She just found out she is having a boy.

So here is the dilemma: my sister wants the baby to have a name outside of the "Nick" trend, but if this baby is her last baby, she doesn't want him to feel "left out." She wants to go with another "N" name but doesn't know if it's the same. They are currently considering "Nolan John" [I'm not a huge fan.]

Any suggestions on boy names? "N" or "Nick-"? Or just opinions on the whole situation? Much appreciated!

-Ayla

Oh, and for the record, my favorite names:
Girls
Nirvanah
Norah
Elle
Cherie
Karma
Gwen or Gwenivere
Azhure
Devyn
Rheagan
Marley

Boys
Christopher [my fiances name]
Alexander
Arturo
James
Zephyr [unsure if this would be better for a boy or girl, really]
Hendrix
...
Can't think of the rest right now ><

sugggesstions welcome!

I haven't heard anyone throw this one out there--Stella.

If it weren't my own name, I'd name my first daugher that. I absolutely love my name and always get compliments from people on it. It's easy to spell, easy to pronounce, recognizable, but rare. My great-grandmother's name was Estella, and I was named after her.

I like names that are uncommon, but not unheard of and overly strange. I like to have names that are recognizable and thus generally pronounced correctly.

Names I like for girls:
- Gwyneth
- Elanor
- Cecily
- Melesande

Names I like for boys:
- Ethan, Seth, Cameron, Carter, Landen (but these names are too common these days)
- Brayden
- Ammon
- Anders

For middle names, I am a big fan of one syllable names such as Mae, Grace, Jane, Ava, Leigh, Wes, etc. because I like the flow of the one syllable middle name.

Of course all of these names depend on my husband's last name.

Hello!

My name is Devlin Ember, but this wasn't always true. I was born Patricia Devlin. Patricia is my mother's name, however, and on top of that I hate the name. No offense to all of your out there who have it and/or love it. It's just not for me. Plus, having both mother and daughter with the same name and as well being born on the January 7 and November 7 (1/07 and 11/07) made a big hassle sometimes for legal and medical records of any sort. We were constantly getting mixed up. So I finally changed my name when I was old enough to Devlin Ember. It no longer has as much Celtic heritage to it, but I love the name Ember too much.

And here's my list of names that I like )

Hey! I thought of some new combinations! What do you think?:

Girls:

Abigail Cassidy
or
Francesca Leanna
or
Estelle Suzanne (Suzanne after Suzanne Farrell :P)

Boys:

Logan George  (George after George Balanchine :P I'm still the ballet fan :P)
or
Julian Michael ( Michael after Mikhail Baryshnikov)
or
Adam Charles

Opinions please???

My last name is Wofford. I have one brother and he is the only one to carry on our family name. There are very few surviving members of the Wofford family, and all of them are female. My father is ill and only has a few years left.

My first born son will have the name Wofford, either first or middle, as a tribute to my father, his father and the rest of that wonderful family.

But I need another name. I won't actually call my son Wofford (mostly because that is what everyone calls me and my brother) but I want a name to go with it. I love literary and Biblical names.

Here are my ideas thus far:

Marshall
Gage
Keagan
Malcolm
Nehemiah
Lucas
Cyrus
Silas

Ideas for girls: [obviously they will NOT be named Wofford :P ]
Ruby
Espy --> my grandmother's maiden name
Athalia
Eowyn
Harriet
Ester
Scarlett
Delilah

any thoughts?

Hi! I just joined!
My name is Anastasia and I love names.
I'm very interested in what different names mean and why people name their children what they do.

I don't have any "favourite" names, nor do I prefer "unusual" names to "regular" ones.

That's really all I've got! *shrug*

Edit: I lied I have something else! I love, um, "ethnic" names. And by that I mean names that are uncommon in America, but popular in other places. My sister says that I can't marry an American, especially one with a bland last name.
My current obsession is with the name Torsten.
[identity profile] young-forever.livejournal.com
My name is Natalie Hart (yes, that's my middle name. It was my great-grandma's maiden name), and I'm 18. I don't plan on having kids anytime soon, but I love names for some reason, and of course I'll put my obligatory list of names I really like:

Behind a cut for your convenience )

I tend to like the uncommon names. I've never been fond of the ever common names like 'Elizabeth' or 'Marie'. Seriously, when I was in high school about half the girls had one of those two names for a middle name. Not that they're bad names don't get me wrong, I just think they're way overused.
[identity profile] poppyspade.livejournal.com
I love Baby names!!! I think about them too much and change my mind ALL the time...

But here's my current lists:

BOYS

Dashiell Patrick (Patricia is my mom, Patrick is my bro)
Preston Isaac

GIRLS

Audrey Grace
Jorja Faith (George is my father)
Amélie/Aurélia (not both) [SOME middle name]

I also like:
Stella
Justine (Mostly for a middle name)
Jolie-Patrice

Can't come up with anymore :P But I really do think about them often!
[identity profile] tulles.livejournal.com
Here's my list of boys names:

Fletcher
Cooper
Tucker
Fisher
Vaughn
Sawyer

Any opinions (good or bad)?
[identity profile] swiftheartlu.livejournal.com
I've been trying to keep up with this community, but forgive me if i've missed any posts that DO mention...but...

WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY NAME?!

It's a damn common name, and it's really pretty. No-one seems to have even MENTIONED it... It's french (and hebrew I think?) It means 'resembles God' (which I LOVE). It's easy to spell, easy to pronounce, what more could you want! Yes, it's like the Beatles song, but you can brush over that...

I want a whole generation of babies called

MICHELLE!

c'mon...help me out here!
[identity profile] ella-smiles.livejournal.com
Okay, what are your thoughts on this. My sister and I both adore the name Gwyn/Gwen, but I like Gwyneth and she likes Gwendaline. Could we have a baby Gwyn and a baby Gwen? There are several years between my sister and I so they shouldn't be too close in age. She's older and already married, so alas, she may get to it first. Let's hope she has 5 boys first... :-)
[identity profile] ella-smiles.livejournal.com
I keep posting in here, sorry!

I just found on the Social Security website that you can put in a baby name and they will tell you popularity for like the last 100 years. Pretty cool (U.S. only of course)

Hello all!  I am new here and thought I would make a post.  My son's name is Alexander Eric Eidson {he has 2 middle names- Eidson is not his last name} and we call him Lex....which in a way is humerous because he DOES have red curly hair... :~)

My Great-grandmother's name was Effie and I am not sure where or what it is derrived from...does anyone know??

Thanks in advance for all your input!!

Are there names that you've come to loathe after someone you really hate/dislike?

I can't stand Serena, Irene and Lauren because I've met people I couldn't stand that had these names.

(I don't mean to ruin those names for anybody, it's just that I don't like them)
[identity profile] mrsanthony.livejournal.com
This is Susan's sister Marie posting for her...She had her baby today at about 7 AM. A little boy that she and her husband named Sean Maverick. Sean after our brother and Maverick, just because they liked it. lol. She wanted everyone here to know ASAP. And she wanted to gather everyone's opinions on the name.
[identity profile] girlsteve.livejournal.com
So, I was thinking. Unusual is just what you aren't used to. And it occurs to me that I probably know loads of people with unusual names but it never really occurs to me because they are close friends.

The two that come to mind are Rhydian and Kester, both men I know, but I'm sure there are others if I think about it.

I was just wondering what anyone thought of them, or if anyone else knows people with weird and wonderful names?
[identity profile] dancingpiratess.livejournal.com
Hiya, new here, but have been a name obsessive for a long time since early childhood in fact.

I have a little girl called Lyra Wednesday, stemming from my favourite Author being Phil Pullman and the fact she was born unexpectedly on a Wednesday 5 weeks early in a bit of an emergency.

I was told by a medium she had been a twin and the other had been a little boy. Which was ironic as I had already chosen a boys name of Viktor Wolfgang, after my grandfather (who himself was a twin) and obviously Mozart.

Just wondering whats is peoples opinion of picking names from your favourite books or films etc?

ie. Lorna (as in Lorna Doone) which didn't exist until the book was written.

Also new :)

My name is Kate Elizabeth, and I love it.
Kate's quite a popular name, but its not really overused I don't think, and while Elizabeth is a VERY overused middle name, it has personal meaning for me as it was nanna's name, and nanna's mums name!

Not intending on having kids yet, but I already have favourite names!

Girls
Alex
Imogen [my best friend's name!]

Boys
Dylan [my favourite]
Finn
Jack
Kester
James [my brothers name though]
Tristan
Matt [but that's my boyfriend's brothers name]

Middle Names
For Girls
-Elizabeth
-Daire

Boys
-One of the names I don't use!

First three boys names are my all time favourites!

What are your favourite celebrity baby names?

I really love Henry Chance, Rachel Weisz's son. Joe Alfie is Kate Winslet's son, and I think that's a really adorable name.

Others: )

Laura or Sarah ?

Which do you prefer, and why?
[identity profile] leonie-angel.livejournal.com
A little funky thingy. Imagine you had 5 children: A boy, then a girl, then a boy, and then identical twin-girls.

Mine would be called:

1. Daniël Lennart (nickname Daan)  that's Dutch, by the way. Lennart after my dad.
2. Anna Helena Evalynne. Anna after my mom Johanna, Helena after my friend Ellen and Evalynne after my friend Eva )
3. Julian Alexander.  Ij ust really like these :)
4. Melody Rose   Melody because I love music, and Rose because I love the name AND the flower.
5. Lily  Symphony   Lily because I love it, Symphony because it mathces her twin's name Melody and I think it's pretty. See? the first girl has a musicish name, then the flower. girl # 2 has the flower first, then the musicish name.
Opinions? And what would your kids be called if you had 5 in this combination? Boy, girl, boy, girl-twins?
[identity profile] mystickiwi.livejournal.com
My friend and I were looking over this website, and she told me that I should put out some of my....unusual boys names....

Cut for absurdity

In all serious, I hope that if I ever have kids, they're girls, because i really don't like serious boys names.
My first daughter Victoria Maree. Maree is the family spelling of the name (and if you check babynames.com, it's legit) and Victoria is my great grandmother. I refuse to ever use Vicky as a nickname, it will be Tori or Toria.
I also like Gwendolyn Julia. I'd want to spell it Gwendolynne, but I'm not sure if I'd actually do that. I want to be a nice mom someday. Except to poor Schneevus McDuff....

I'm New!

Hi! I'm new to this community! My name is Katherine, and I am 20 years old. I have a serious boyfriend, but kids are wayyyy in my future. But that doesn't mean I don't like to imagine names. So here's some of my favorites. I guess I like more traditional names, but reading through previous entries, I've liked a lot of the less traditional names as well. But, nonetheless, here's some of my favorite names:

Boys:

Caleb
Liam
Aidan
Christian
Luke
Jacob
Noah

Girls:

Gabrielle
Eliza
Marta
Sophie
Ella
Kayla
Janna
