Hello.
To start off with, my name is Ayla Cherie [Ayla pronounced like the letter "A" and then "la" and "Cherie" as the french word, as in mon cherie.}
I would recommend to anyone to give their child a unique name. I've never met another Ayla [in real life] & my unusual name has definately added an aspect to my life that I'm sure my parents never anticipated. I love it.
Second, my reason for posting has nothing to do with my name. My sister, Nicole, is married to a man named Nick. Two years ago, they had an adorable baby boy whom, after Nick's wishes, became Nicholas II. Now, my sister is pregnant again and due in August. She just found out she is having a boy.
So here is the dilemma: my sister wants the baby to have a name outside of the "Nick" trend, but if this baby is her last baby, she doesn't want him to feel "left out." She wants to go with another "N" name but doesn't know if it's the same. They are currently considering "Nolan John" [I'm not a huge fan.]
Any suggestions on boy names? "N" or "Nick-"? Or just opinions on the whole situation? Much appreciated!
-Ayla
Oh, and for the record, my favorite names:
Girls
Nirvanah
Norah
Elle
Cherie
Karma
Gwen or Gwenivere
Azhure
Devyn
Rheagan
Marley
Boys
Christopher [my fiances name]
Alexander
Arturo
James
Zephyr [unsure if this would be better for a boy or girl, really]
Hendrix
...
Can't think of the rest right now ><
sugggesstions welcome!

Date: 2007-05-04 11:36 am (UTC)Although personally, to me it seems bad enough having 3 nick's in one family, I don't think there is any need at all for the last one to match.

Date: 2007-05-04 12:21 pm (UTC)Since you like unique names, how about these?
Neasán (NESH-ahn) - Gaelic
Nevan (NAU-ahn) - also Gaelic
Niles
Nylee
Noran
Most the other N names I know have already been suggested.

Date: 2007-05-04 12:36 pm (UTC)I like Cherie in theory but as she gets older she'll probably become Cher. Which no one can possibly like.
I had a cat named Marley.
Rheagan is REALLY nice, I like Reagan as a spelling much better. I was also a fan of the president though, so take that as you will.

Date: 2007-05-04 02:58 pm (UTC)I really like Elle and Norah for girls, the Topher nickname for Christopher, and James for both girls and boys.

Date: 2007-05-05 06:55 am (UTC)But it's such a pretty word & unique meaning, & with the different spelling, I'm hoping a girl wouldn't be bothered too much about the whole grunge rock aspect.
I'm not a fan of Topher at all for some reason [probably just becuase I'm so used to Chris]

Date: 2007-05-04 02:37 pm (UTC)I was talking to my best friend one time and she was saying that I would end up naming my children after rock legends (their last names) and Hendrix came up.
I like Hendrix and at the same time I don't.

Date: 2007-05-05 07:01 am (UTC)I'm a bigger fan of Marley.
And my all time favorite rock star is Robert Plant and I'm not naming a baby "Plant."
