[identity profile] dancingpirate.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hello.
To start off with, my name is Ayla Cherie [Ayla pronounced like the letter "A" and then "la" and "Cherie" as the french word, as in mon cherie.}
I would recommend to anyone to give their child a unique name. I've never met another Ayla [in real life] & my unusual name has definately added an aspect to my life that I'm sure my parents never anticipated. I love it.

Second, my reason for posting has nothing to do with my name. My sister, Nicole, is married to a man named Nick. Two years ago, they had an adorable baby boy whom, after Nick's wishes, became Nicholas II. Now, my sister is pregnant again and due in August. She just found out she is having a boy.

So here is the dilemma: my sister wants the baby to have a name outside of the "Nick" trend, but if this baby is her last baby, she doesn't want him to feel "left out." She wants to go with another "N" name but doesn't know if it's the same. They are currently considering "Nolan John" [I'm not a huge fan.]

Any suggestions on boy names? "N" or "Nick-"? Or just opinions on the whole situation? Much appreciated!

-Ayla

Oh, and for the record, my favorite names:
Girls
Nirvanah
Norah
Elle
Cherie
Karma
Gwen or Gwenivere
Azhure
Devyn
Rheagan
Marley

Boys
Christopher [my fiances name]
Alexander
Arturo
James
Zephyr [unsure if this would be better for a boy or girl, really]
Hendrix
...
Can't think of the rest right now ><

sugggesstions welcome!

Neville (usually pronounced "Neh.vull") -- I can't express how much I love this name. :) Neville is such a cute name, if I have a boy I'll most likely name him this.

What about the name Dominic? It has Nick in it, but it's still different.

Also, my cousin's first name is Ayla. Growing up, she went by her middle name instead. I'm not sure why because it's much harder to spell and pronounce. It's Auriaunty, but pronounced like "Aww-ree-ought-knee".

It could have Nick subtly in it... like Annika for a girl.

Although personally, to me it seems bad enough having 3 nick's in one family, I don't think there is any need at all for the last one to match.

Could be worse. You could have 7 boys all named George, like George Forman. Honestly, why would someone give SEVEN KIDS all the same name?!

Since you like unique names, how about these?

Neasán (NESH-ahn) - Gaelic
Nevan (NAU-ahn) - also Gaelic
Niles
Nylee
Noran

Most the other N names I know have already been suggested.

Karma and Zephyr are terrible.
I like Cherie in theory but as she gets older she'll probably become Cher. Which no one can possibly like.
I had a cat named Marley.
Rheagan is REALLY nice, I like Reagan as a spelling much better. I was also a fan of the president though, so take that as you will.

I agree with the sentiments about Karma and Zephyr. I'd be hesitant about naming my child Nirvanah, because I'd worry they would end up getting a lot of, "Were your parents really big grunge fans?" or something of the like.

I really like Elle and Norah for girls, the Topher nickname for Christopher, and James for both girls and boys.

I knew a girl called Ayla in high school.

I was talking to my best friend one time and she was saying that I would end up naming my children after rock legends (their last names) and Hendrix came up.
I like Hendrix and at the same time I don't.

I always wanted to use Cobain as a middle name. I never will because it seems a bit of a burden (even not as a first name) to load a kid with suicidal rock star but still...

In highschool I knew someone named Nicopalis and also a friend of mine gave her son that for a middle name. That would kind of follow the 'Nick' trend
