My last name is Wofford. I have one brother and he is the only one to carry on our family name. There are very few surviving members of the Wofford family, and all of them are female. My father is ill and only has a few years left.

My first born son will have the name Wofford, either first or middle, as a tribute to my father, his father and the rest of that wonderful family.

But I need another name. I won't actually call my son Wofford (mostly because that is what everyone calls me and my brother) but I want a name to go with it. I love literary and Biblical names.

Here are my ideas thus far:

Marshall
Gage
Keagan
Malcolm
Nehemiah
Lucas
Cyrus
Silas

Ideas for girls: [obviously they will NOT be named Wofford :P ]
Ruby
Espy --> my grandmother's maiden name
Athalia
Eowyn
Harriet
Ester
Scarlett
Delilah

any thoughts?

Not really a fan of how any of those names sound with Wofford.

What about Elias?
I like the way Wofford Elias sounds.

"esters are organic compounds in which an organic group (symbolized by R' in this article) replaces a hydrogen atom (or more than one) in a hydroxyl group." (Courtesy of Wikipedia)

Should spell Esther with the H, in my opinion. I love most of the names on your list :)

I think since Wofford is quite a mouthful, the best choice for a first name would be a short one. I like Gage, Lucas and Silas from your list.
Keagan is also not too bad, it's very different from Wofford, which might be a pro.

Lucas or Gage. I love both of those. Though, Malcolm Wofford has a nice ring to it. :D

I love Scarlett for a girl. Nice choices!

When he grows up, he might want to use the intial "W," so I think the middle name should be something that goes along. I like "W. Marshall" and "W Gage" myself.

If it's a girl, why not make her middle name Wofford, too? We're planning on using both last names (one as a middle name or second middle name) because he's the only male in his branch (and his sister is a traditionalist) and my only brother doesn't want kids. (I'm not changing my name, though--partially because of that, partially because I'm lazy, partially because in this state, he can't change his, too, and mainly because, well, it's my name).
