I am not expecting to have children anytime soon but I want your opinion anyway since someday my future children will probably have one of the names listed below. I seem to have a really hard time with boy names and I don't know if the names I like classify as "odd" or not, so let me know. (My boyfriend's last name is Poss, so I guess you could put the names with his last name.)

My favorite names for girls:
  • Ellie Christina
  • (Ellie is my all time favorite girl name, but I am not sure "Christina" fits well with it.)
  • Astrid Harper

  • Lilly Bijou

  • Audrey Catherine

  • Frances Mary

  • Isolde Juliet
  • Adair Jolie
  • (Not after Angelina, my mom had told me about the name "Jolie" when I was really young and I have loved it since. I used to spell it "Joelie" though and I am not sure if that is a good way to spell it. Also, I think "Adair" is a boy name but I love it more on a girl.)

My favorite names for boys:
  • Jude (?)

  • Elijah Matthew

  • Oliver (?)

  • Noah Elliott

  • Nolan Francis
  • (Though I think Francis sounds too feminine.)

So... thoughts, opinions, suggestions, criticisms?

Hello!   :)

I've made a few comments in some posts here, so maybe it's time for me to introduce myself.

My name is Tracy, I'm married and I live in Scandinavia (but moving moving to England in the next few weeks). My husband and I are not planning on having children at the moment--I just love picking out names and learning what names other people like. However, I think I am the odd one out here. I don't do the "sibling set" thing. I don't care if my son's name matches my daughter's name. I'd give my son an Irish first name with a Scandinavian middle name, and  my daughter would have a Russian first name with the middle name of June. I also don't care about perfect flow in names--as long as it doesn't sound like it rhymes or is embarrassing in some capacity to the child (difficult to pronounce, intials make a funny word, etc.). And I think naming your kid just Maggie or Charlie is fine. Those are acceptable names for adults and I feel you shouldn't be forced to pick Charles if you don't like it. My name is short sounding and I'm fine with it and I never use my middle name with it.

I have a dog named Milo, a rabbit named Tookie and a new baby bunny named Frank (full name is Francis after the saint).

I enjoy reading the posts in here.   :)

Do you have anything on your list that's totally not your style and almost kind of embarrasses the snob in you? Please divulge.

I mentioned in my intro post that I currently live in Scandinavia. In Denmark there is an acceptable list of baby names. This means you are not allowed to name your child a name not on the list without approval (I believe this goes for odd spellings, too). The list has been relaxed somewhat because of immigration of non-Scandinavians into Denmark--but your best bet is to prove the name is significant to your religion or culture. So no Moon Units. Actually, my mother-in-law told me her parents were not allowed to name her sister Mia back around 1960.

Do you think this is a good idea so kids don't end up with cruel names?

I always feel as though I dont have a right to be posting in here, considering I'm sixteen, and not planning or expecting a child anytime soon. But then I realized that whether or not I am a parent, I can still enjoy names. So... onto my lists.

Actress Mariska Hargitay and her husband, Peter Hermann, had a little boy yesterday. They named him August--no middle name has been released (as of yet.) So his name is August Hermann. I'm not sure if I'm a fan just yet.

According to babynames.com, August is German for "Revered, Exalted."

WOW!

DAMN!

I started a hot topic with the Danish baby name list. I have to say Denmark is not the only country with such a rule and Denmark is a liberal country so it does seem a bit weird--but that's how it is. I found this website where people have put their views and it might describe it a bit better:

Okay so I've obviously heard the name Priscilla Presley a million times. But I heard it two days ago and suddenly out of nowhere it clicked in y head that I LOVE the name Priscilla. I dont know why. Ive never really liked it but for some reason at that moment I was like "that HAS to be my daughters name."
I'm not sure why. How do you guys feel about the name? Middle names?
