There's an old Cajun French song called "Allons Danser, Colinda" that my mother used to dance me around to when I was a kid. It's always been one of my favorite songs.
It's pronounced coe-LIN-dah. Spare me the collander comments. It isn't my usual style at all; usually I don't like syllables tacked onto things that look like common names (Linda). And I think I like the idea of the name more than its actual sound and look. But I'd still consider using it on a daughter.
It actually is my style because I like female Russian names; however, the name sounded hideous to me at first but now I like it. It means love and I feel a name that means love is wonderful on a child. Ljobov.' Just drop the J and it's loo--bov. I'm probably the only person outside of the Russian Federation that likes it.
Ok, I definitely used "Ljubov" in some 'fanfic' story I wrote years ago that involved a Russian character. ;]
Ummm, as far as an embarrassing favorite of my own....the first thing that comes to mind is Madison. I used to hate it and all names of that "sort." But somehow, I've grown to find it cute. I still hate Makenna, Mackenzie, etc etc etc though.
I dont like Jane as a middle name- i think it's so boring & common & normal but i adore Amelia Jane, anyone else know the character written by Enid Blyton? Also AJ is very very cute for a girl... my little 'sister' (very very close family fiend basicaly family!) is Amy Jane & we call her AJ, i ♥ it. So, yeah that's kinda snobby..
I have a couple of embarrassing names on my list, but actually they're all pretty in line with my style. Feminine with a hippie vibe. But Clover? What is wrong with me? Might be cute on a puppy. And Maisie isn't even a name. I have no idea where I came up with it. (Actually, I think there might be a character on a childrens tv show or book named Maisie.) Those are the two that I'd never use and never admit to other people, but I still refuse to take them off the list!
Burcu. It's Turkish, and feminine. Pronounced Bew-chew
I knew the most adorable little Turkish girl named Burcu, and so I have a really positive association with it. But everytime I've mentioned it to anyone as a name I like.. they look at me like I just said I love the name Asshat.. so I keep it to myself, generally. ;)
Seraphim. I was all set to name my next daughter that. I've had to give it up because I think it's just too far out there. I don't think it's worth the risk of her being miserable with a weird name just cuz I think it's cute. But I am still madly in love with it, as is my SO. I probably shouldn't be so concerned with what other's think, but I'm not the one who has to walk around with it. *sigh*
Yeah. The plural thing bugs me too. It's not really uncommon for me, I do a lot of gaming and stuff, so I see it a lot in fantasy stuff. Also one of my fav comics has a character named Seraphim. But I have to understand not everyone is a pathetic dork, so it will be very not common for them :P
HAHAHAHA. Yeah, but on the flip side, not everyone is enough of a pathetic dork to know that the "-im" ending is plural, so few people would probably notice that particular problem :) (I study Hebrew lit, though, so I'll always pick up on Hebrew names/words that are used "wrong." But in a parallel universe I could possibly see myself using Seraphina as a mn - being named after terrifying fiery creatures from heaven would be kind of cool ;) )
I like some kind of out there hippy/nature names but I'm really not ashamed of those, especially because I'd use them as mns, not fns, so I don't think it really matters.
I'm sure other people think my taste is crazy, especially outside of naming communities, but I'm ok with that. I'm not ashamed at all to use something not heard every day.
I will admit to not hating Jaxon. I just think the nn Jax is cool. It's nowhere near my list of names I'd actually use, more like in the bottom of my top 50 boy names.
I once met a little boy named Trunks, and I kinda like it. ::blushing:: I thought of a little elephant when I heard it. LOL Another little boy name is Ronan, but I'd hate to have people call him Ron. :(
I am hispanic and there are A LOT of hispanic names that y'all would freak about, but are common in the hispanic scene. There's this actress named Monserrat (Ontiveros) and I've always LOVED her name. Another name is Gammaliel (gah-mah-lee-ehlle) nn Gamma.

I had friends in 2nd-4th grade who were girl twins, Esin and Ezra. I love Ezra as a boys name, but don't know if I could use it on a girl...
