Mollie/Molly?
Which spelling do you prefer for the name? Molly or Mollie? I've been told by a few people it changes the "image" they get from the name. I tend to agree--I sort of like Molly, but it strikes me as almost mundane; while I find myself absolutely loving Mollie. What do you think?

I might just be biased though...my niece's name is Molly. :)

I prefer the cleaner traditional spellings almost exclusively. Mollie isn't bad as far as creative spellings go, but I still prefer the most basic approach.

I tend to as well, which is why this is a bit odd; except that I do tend to like "ie" versions better. In my mind, it seems more whole. But I was about to ask what the original version was, because Molly is a pet form for Mary, is it not? I think the Mollie spelling was always popular, and not just in recent years. I get what you mean about the most basic approach though. People spelling it "MiKayla" drive me batty. :)

(my favourite name is Kate, and a friend once told me she can see the day someone spells it "K8" or something similar; it made me laugh, like Maywliey, and then it made me sad, because you just know it's bound to happen, if it hasn't already).
I'm not even sure Mollie is an alternate spelling. It's been around as long as Molly, as far as I can see. It's actually really interesting, as they're both pet forms for Mary. I wonder when Mollie came along.

I don't know either. I think that you're bound to get your name misspelled. I'm Jillian, and people spell it Gillian all the time, which I find reasonable; but then, all the Gillians I know have it misspelled as Jillian. We're all doomed. ;-)

my daughters name is Jaeda and i didn't want to spell it as Jada because it just seemed to plain and simple...most people know how to spell her name but some people have spelled it as Jaida - and it took my husband about a year to get the spelling down :)

Oh and I'm probably biased because my kitty is Molly and I love it just the way it is.

Mollie just doesn't look right for some reason.
It's sort of like Jenny & Jennie I guess..
but my name is Jennifer and I go by Jenny.

And I've always had "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn"-esque fantasy of naming a girl Mollie Malone after the Irish song.

I'm Sophy, Yes Sophy with a y. It's quite unusual & although people are always spelling it with a 'ie' (which makes so much more sense i know!) I do quite enjoy having it spelt a little differently to other Sophie's.
