so what were some names that your mother almost named you? if i were a boy, i'd have been called beau david and other girl names that mom wanted were rebecca colleen (becca) and betsy jeanne. she settled on traci jeanne because on the way to the hospital, my dad was singing a song called "traces of love" to calm her down. i think that him not letting her call me betsy is about the best thing he ever did for me!

had i been a boy, i would have been scott timothy. they also liked erin karen and as much as i like both of those names, the rhyming makes me happy they chose lindsay rebecca instead.

I love the name Beau.
I was Kezia for a few days, until my dad found out it was a biblical name & decided he hated it. Sophie was 7&something when I was born, they had never met another Sophie.
I haven't met that many Sophie's but it's now number 3 :-/ eh.

For a boy, I would have been Nicholas John. John is my dad's name. My mom wanted to name me just plain Kate, but the Catholic church didn't view that as a "formal name" and supposedly wouldn't baptize me as just Kate. So I ended up Katherine Jill...but she also thought about Kathleen. I'm happy with Katherine and have been called Kate all my life.

Do people nickname you "Katie" a lot? I'm curious because Kate is my absolute favourite name. I love just plain Kate, but I always worry about people making it into Katie.

My mom made it clear from the beginning that I was Kate, never Katie. Every now and then someone screws it up (even after I've clearly introduced myself as Kate)...but it's usually a cute old lady or something that does it, so I let it slide. But, no...it doesn't happen too often.

Although, my husband's grandmother STILL insists on calling me "Kay" even though she's corrected by me or someone else nearly every single time she does it. We've been together for almost 6 years though, so I've learned to let it slide. ;)

There was really no alternative girl names that my mom thought of. She had loved the name Kristy since she was in high school, and her middle name is Marie, so I was Kristy Marie. It wasn't hard for her to convince my dad on it because he loved Christie Brinkley. LoL

If I had been a boy, the options were Vicenzo Paul, Cody Paul, or Paul Jasper III. Thank God for the double-X.

I would have been Benjamin Scott, and my sister would have been Sean Patrick. Interestingly enough, I have a son with the middle name Patrick and another son with the first name Scott. That wasn't planned, and I didn't do it to please my parents. Both boys were named after specific people. Funny.

My name is also Tracy Jeanne. I never thought I'd find another person with that name, because both names aren't exactly common.

My name's Ginny, but I would have been Hayley if my Granny hadn't been so opposed to it. I'm not sure what my name would have been if I was a boy.

I would of been Damian Darnell had I been a boy. My sister would of been Jamel Hasim. Other girl names my Mom had picked out for me were Kenya, Leandria and Demitria.

If I were a boy, I would have been Sean Christopher.

My mom originally wanted to name me Marianne Elizabeth. She was thirty-nine when I, her first-born, was born, and she really wanted a girl, so she prayed to three of the holiest women in the Bible (Mary, mother of Jesus; Anne, mother of Mary; and Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist) and promised to name me after them if I turned out to be a girl. I did, but my dad didn't realize that she'd meant Marianne as one name, not two, and he vetoed it. So my mom had to be creative and fit it all in another way that I'd rather not disclose.

Also, my parents were completely convinced that my brother would be a girl. They were going to name him Megan Jane (Megan because it's Irish, and both of my grandmothers' names begin with an M, and Jane because my grandmothers both have the middle name Jane).

Strangely enough, even after he popped out a boy, he didn't get Sean Christopher. His first name was one grandfather's middle name, and his middle name was the other grandfather's first name.

My mother was really wishing to name me Carley but it wouldn't have worked, since my madien name was Carle. Instead she named me Dana Lynn because one of her good friends was named Dana Lynn Clarke, lol.

As a boy, I might've been Nathaniel Prentise. Prentise being my grandfather. And my initials would have been NPR.

My name IS Sarah Amy.

I believe had I been born male, I would have been Tobias.

Because I was born 3 months premature, I wasn't named Emily like planned. Boo :(

? Why didn't they name you Emily?

I was born via emergency caesarian section and they weren't sure if I would live or not, Sarah is my great aunt on my mothers side, and Amy is my grandmother on my fathers side.. so yeah, *shrug*

At least it's a sweet reason? ;) After emergency cesarean at 26 weeks, my daughter got her middle name 'Sherman' after my cat of 14 years that had died 2 weeks earlier. Aside from being sweet, and the morphine, we thought it'd be good luck.

Not to be creepy, but one of the reasons I asked is I sometimes wonder if parents give their less favorite names to children they're not sure will make it. I'm sure in the moment they're totally not thinking of that, but I also know I'm sad that I'll never have much occasion to say my daughter's beautiful name out loud again. Of course, It's more sadness that I don't have my beautiful daughter here to call that name..

I'm not sure what my name would have been if I was a boy, but my mom was thinking of naming me Crystal (but someone in the family beat her to it) or Jacquelyn (not sure how she would have spelled it though).

my name was going to be WOLFGANG if I was a boy and my sister was going to be ELVIS.

If I was a boy I would have been Scott Michael, I think. Scott something. My brother's name was Michael Scott.. lol. And the other name they had picked out for me was Brittany, but they thought I would have a hard time spelling Brittany. It so happens that Spelling was my best subject in elementary school and I was in a lot of spelling bees back then. That, and I might be an English major... *eyeroll* My mom pisses me off. I would have taken that over what they finally decided on, Brandi Nicole. I utterly hate my name. My mom should not be allowed to name anyone or anything.

My name is Kelly Marie. If my mother could have found anyone else who liked it, I would have been Corie. If I had been a boy, I would have been justin, which is funny, because my mom got remarried when I was 12, I ended up with a stepbrother named Justin, who is only two months older than me. Two justins in one family... would have been strange!

I like Betsy better than Traci..

I was verry close to being a Bridget. I always was glad I didn't get the double Br- Br- (my last name is Brown). So what do I name my daughter? Brenna Brown (Well, Brenna Rose was her full first name, but we called her Brenna).. lol.

My mother often called me Gertrude. My brother tells me she actually almost named me that.. I keep meaning to ask her if that's true.. yikes.

My husband was supposed to be a girl and would have been 'Amanda.' His little sister is instead.

Ah, that sucks. I had similarly cruel brothers. I didn't have a good name to make fun of, but kids will make fun of someone any way they can. :(

I think Betsy is cute. Betty is cuter, though. Maybe a nice compromise for your little one?

i was supposed to be called Sheena. thank goodness that didnt happen. they decided on Krystal. i dont like my name, but it's better than Sheena! (and no boy name, my mom never thought she was having a boy)

my brother was supposed to be Tiffany or Kirk as in Captain. but on the way to the hospital my parents thought of Kyle and that's his name!

Krystal Anne and Kyle Anthony. Ew. I will not give my kids matching names.

i was going to be nicole but my mom couldnt think of any middle names she liked that went with it so she named me jacquelynn nichole instead. i still cant decide if i would have rather been named nicole but i would like to make the h disappear from my middle name.

my brother was almost cameron ryan but they named him dustin ryan instead. my other brothers name is tyler.
