This name is very new to me - I heard it for the first time the other day.

Ghislaine : French origin, meaning: sweet pledge, gender: female

Opinions?

I wouldn't say it as Gillen - the Ghis is automatically associated with the zhees sound in my head.

Guylaine, however, would be Gillen.

I think it would be pronounced like Geez(hard G)-len. I'm not sure though, I haven't studied French in a long time.

My friends mum is called Ghislaine.

I don't really like it, but it's not weird to me at all...

I have a customer at work whose name is Ghyslaine, which I like better, probably because it's the first time I saw the name.

I love it, but a lot of people are going to pronounce it JIZZ-laine. Which I wouldn't want for my name.

I love it, and although I'm from a French background I can't properly write down the way it is pronounced....sorry. But it does have a 'soft G'.

Is it Ghislain? Without the e at the end? Because it's not uncommon in French to have boy/girl names that are very similar, such as Ghislain/Ghislaine or François/Françoise etc.
