Date: 2007-01-17 01:29 am (UTC)I actually adore "Rogue" as well, but I wouldn't dream of giving it to a child since a rogue is a vagabond, tramp or theif... I do plan on using the name for a dog or cat someday though.

Date: 2007-01-17 10:24 am (UTC)Lyric has actually made the top 1000 baby names a few times. Its not all that uncommon anymore. Willow is also becoming popular.
I like October, it sounds nice, but I'm not a big fan of the Oc sound. I like "day" names, too.. Saturday, Tuesday, etc.

Date: 2007-01-17 11:13 am (UTC)Willow - Very pretty name. Do you like Buffy (the show not the name!)? If not you may get sick of people saying "oh, like the girl in Buffy the Vampire Slayer?". If you do like it I guess this wouldn't be a problem!
Rogue - Oh no. I love X Men but this isn't even the character's real name. If you think about what it means as a word I think it has negative connotations. You could always give her Rogue's real name and call her Rogue as a nickname?
Harper - I quite like this, it's unusual without being too "out there".
Aislyn - Ok, I do see your point here, but... I think you'd spend ages having to correct people who pronounced the name as it's supposed to be pronounced. I also think it would reflect badly on you in a way. I mean, if I met a girl named Sinead I'd automatically pronounce it "Shin-ade", as that's how it's supposed to be! If the parents then said "actually, no, it's 'Sin-ee-add'", I'd think they were pretty dumb for naming their kid something they couldn't even pronounce! That's just my opinion. To be honest, I'm not a massive fan of the name however you pronounce it.
Lyric - Not my style, sorry.
October - Not my style, but for some reason I do actually kinda like it. One of those things. Would you shorten it? I knew an Octavia who went by "Occie" and I always thought that was bad...
Quinn - I think of it as a more masculine name but I know it's unisex. It's ok. Not bad.
Scout - Meh. I'm with the other person who pointed out that Scout in "To Kill A Mockingbird" wasn't the character's real name. I know some people do use this as a name but I've never understood why to be honest.

Date: 2007-01-17 06:57 pm (UTC)I have to agree with this statement, I absolutely HATED the Buffy show and half the time that I tell people my daughter's name is Willow they ask if I'm a Buffy fan.. which I'm NOT, I chose that name when I was 13 years old (after seeing the movie Willow about the dwarf) paired with my mother's name I had my child's name Willow Anastasia (On-ah-stah-see-ah) in my head for 15 years before I had her.

Date: 2007-01-17 03:07 pm (UTC)Rogue - Rogue is a very popular brewery here and I have a hard time thinking of anything but Dead Guy Ale. I'm unable to think of this a name, particular a girl's name.
Harper - It's ok. I'm not into the surname-as-first-name trend though, so it doesn't appeal to me much.
Aislyn - I suppose you can do whatever you want, but it looks stupid. I'd raise my eye brow as much as to a Sean who wants to be called "Seen" and a Sinead who wants to be called "sin-eed." It's just wrong and ignorant.
Lyric - Fine
October - Doesn't really work for me, but the nn Toby would be cute anyway.
Quinn - Eh. It's ok.
Scout - Childish. Ok for a kid, but I'd feel ridiculous as a professional woman with this name.

Date: 2007-01-17 03:43 pm (UTC)My dad was so dedicated to naming me Storm, after the X-Men, up until about a few hours after I was born. I promise you, if my mother had not put her foot down and named me something normal, I would have stopped talking to my dad a long, long time ago and be going by my middle name.

Date: 2007-01-17 04:15 pm (UTC)Rogue - are you serious?! wow that is hideous.
Harper - snore, so dull and masculine sounding. when I think of a harper, i think of a nagger
Aislyn - yuck
Lyric - ewww
October - horrible
Quinn - decent enough
Scout - AWFUL!! wow! like a BOY scout?! horrendous.
Sorry but your names sound like you are really trying to be "different" and actually they're all pretty cliche.

Date: 2007-01-17 07:16 pm (UTC)The reason I point this out is that while my parents gave my 3 brothers very common, traditional English names I got saddled with 2 hideous and difficult to pronounce Spanish names. While I've never had to worry about having 2 or 4 other kids in my class with my name - I do to this day have to correct people or teach them how to say my name. Also my names don't really have suitable nicknames so I was always just STUCK.
Having said all that, of what you have listed - my thoughts are:
Willow - love it as it's my daughter's name (NOT after Buffy!!)
Rogue - As a nickname - ok, but as a first name, no - it's cruel
Harper - I think this name could go either gender but it makes me think of yuppies rather than hippies... in other words a bit snobbish
Aislyn - Your child will spend her life correcting people or even ignore your wishes and go with the actual Ash-lyn pronunciation.. which can you live with doing to her?
Lyric - It sounds very ghetto and cheesy
October - Not a fan of month names, but at least that's my favorite month.
Quinn - I like this, but not paired with Willow as in my head I also hear "Harlequinn".
Scout - Bruce Willis and Demi Moore have a daughter named Scout, but since they are famous I think it's easier for them to pull it off. It makes a better name for a Jack Russell Terrier IMO.
Gideon - I like this name.
Suggestions:
girls:
Fiona
Harley (rather than Harper)
boys:
Declan
Felix
