well. I liked the name kendra and adrienne. but I knew girls with those names and both of whom happened to be meth addicts (one of them had also died). sooo I didn't want people going "aww! you named your baby after key/adri!" when in reality I hated both of them. thus, adria.
this is going to sound weird. My grandma died about 11 months before I got pregnant. Shortly after that, but before the baby was even a thought, I started seeing the name Amelia, jumping out at me EVERYWHERE, even in really strange places like the name of the manufacturer of the paper bag that I got from the deli... there were normal circumstances where I heard the name too, but that one stands out. I became totally stuck on the name, it was always the one I suggested when my husband vetoed every other suggstion. Eventually he gave in, partially bc I let him pick her middle name (Drew).
anyway, Amelia was the name of my grandma's oldest sister (though I didn't quite realize it at the time since they always called her Mimi). Sometimes I swear that my grandma was sending me a sign to use the name of someone in her family.
With baby on the way, I had a really hard time feeling connected to any names we discussed. There is a show with a girl named Georgia and for personal reasons, it was something I became attached to and the more I heard the name the more I could picture using it. The husband agreed and voila, Georgia she will be. Plus, it's a 'real' name and not overly common and (to me at least) sounds good with Amelia, all of which were factors for us.
Ironically, "George" was a pseudo-nickname that someone on that same Grandma's side of the family called my Dad since he was a baby, but again, no one ever told me that until we had the name picked out.
I don't put too much stock in these things being "Meant To Be" but I kind of enjoy the little coincidences. :D
Seamus Eoin (pronounced Shaymus Owen). We chose Gaelic names to honor my husband's Irish side. Seamus: because I've loved the name for years. Eoin: Because it's John in gaelic (the hubs' name) and because it flows really well with Seamus AND it's short, and not *too* weird or *too* common, as Seamus is common enough!
The internet seems to be the only place people love the name. Everyone else goes "...wha--?" haha I guess that's to be expected living in the US though (in a very NON-Irish area). :)
After we scraped Benjamin for initial reasons (BS would get him made fun of) we decided on Erik. It's always been a favorite but I dismissed it early in my first pregnancy because it's Michael's step-brother's name (only Uncle Eric is with a 'c'). We just decided to spell it with a 'k'. With this pregnancy I wanted Tristan or Holden (Tristan is cool and Holden because I love Catcher in the Rye). Michael picked Kimberly Michelle as our girl name because of his friend from high school, Kimber Reynolds, who was murdered (her father was one of the men behind the three strikes law in Cali).
I dated a Ben whose initials were BS and he was made fun of it for it. He actually liked it though and turned it into his own little thing so that's good. But still, when he initals things its looks likea practical joke or something.
Say he was a teacher grading a paper and writes "Great job! - BS" you kind of stop and wonder.
Levi- Me and his daddy heard it on some Discovery Health baby show and it was being used at a middle name. We loved it when we heard it and also cause I wanted some sort of Biblical name.
Kenneth- After my dad who passed away 6 years ago.
I have alot of people mispronounce it as Leh-vee. I dont know why though, I figured since of Levis jeans everyone would guess it right but I think its cause of the mexican last name that people assume the e is "eh" and the i is "ee" in Levi cause that would be how its pronounced in spanish.
I had a dream that when I was pregnant that I named him Miles. I had never thought of the name before but I LOVED it. Paul is his Dads and Grandfathers name.
I found Ivy on a message board. Loved it. Her dad agreed to get me to stop talking about names. LOL Violet is because I just really really liked it, but her dad hated it. We chose Leah because I was 7 days overdue and out of nowhere he scrapped Veronica. At that point, I didn't care what we named her, I just wanted her out. =X And her middle name, Juliet, is because I wanted a guilty-pleasure middle name since I didn't get to pick the first name.. plus we sorta wanted a J middle name as per his family tradition.
Your kids names make me feel like eating chocolate! So so so sweet. I could happily name my daughters any of those four names (though i am super partial to Juliet and Violet)
The kiddo isn't here yet...but when it gets here it'll be either:
Lorelai Ruth (Lorelai we saw on a "name meanings" thing at an amusement park and loved it, Ruth is both of our mother's middle name) or Bryan Joseph (Bryan is after my best friend who died named Ryan and Joseph is both of our father's first name)
we have a lot of odd little coincidences like that...another favorite one - about 6 years before I met my husband my sister and I were trying to annoy eachother so we started calling eachother boy's names...I called her Jason and she called me Ben. My husband is Jason and his brother is Ben.
Daniel Walter. I knew from the beginning I wanted Walter as the middle name, after my dad, and had a hard time coming up with a first name. (Sample rejects: James, Cormac, Michael, Sean... I had a really hard time making up my name).
I was having lunch with an ex, Dan, who's still a friend one day, and he asked what I was naming the baby. "Daniel" I said, just to tease him. "That's awesome!!!" he said. And the more I thought about it, the more I loved the name, and realized that it was what I wanted to name him.
It's also my dad's best friend's name, so I tell people he was named after my dad's best friend. Don't tell many people the ex story :P
My kids both have family names. My son is Jack Edward after two of our grandfathers. My daughter is Evelynn Lee. Evelyn is my dad's mom, Lynn is my MIL, and Lee is mine, my mom's and her mom's middle name.
If we have anymore, we'll keep up the family name thing.
Allen is a name given to the first born son in every generation in the "C" family. It was to either be his first or middle name. Since I wasnt very attached (and I personally hate the name), I decided on middle. I really wanted Andrew, but I was out voted.
Easton was a name that my son's father wanted. I later found out that it was an athletic company, but it wasnt very popular so I didn't care.
Treyton: We loved the name Trey the entire time I was pregnant, it's not a name we had heard often but wasn't really off the wall either, but thought it looked a little incomplete, so we hit the baby books to try and find an ending. We saw the name Trayton and liked how it sounded, but switched the A with an E because nicknaming a baby "Tray" just looks weird, and we wanted Trey as the name to begin with.
Alexander: My best friend since I was around 12, we're still best friends to this day. We decided when we were 16 that if we ever had kids, we'd use each others names somewhere in there. Sounded good with the first name too, so that was a plus.
Lily Victoria - Lily because I have loved it ever since I was little, and it was the only girls name I loved that my husband also loved. Victoria after my mother. We liked the timelessness sound of them together =)
