(no subject)

To me, Sarah is a kid and Sara is an adult.

This is my name (with the H) and I was thinking of dropping it.

What do you think?

[Poll #861145]

And also - what do you picture for each version, etc.?

[identity profile] calixbat.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I dont picture anything really for either, I just prefer the spelling Sara. Its less fussy.

[identity profile] darabelle.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I never thought of one looking younger and one older. To me Sarah is the traditional Hebrew spelling and most people I've known with that name have spelled it that way.

[identity profile] cienna2000.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
I personally do not see a difference, it's the same name and either spelling is fine with me. Personally I found changing my last name when I married to be a huge hassle and wouldn't bother with changing the spelling of my first name, but that's just me.

[identity profile] imyourrapunzel.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I like both, but I think Sarah looks a little bit more complete.

IAWTC

[identity profile] zante.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
I am a Sarah, but I dislike that there are so many of us around.

Thus, to get around this, I go by Sera online and with friends.

[identity profile] space-monkey340.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Sara looks like it's missing something and reminds me of a really bitchy girl I went to school with. Sarah makes me think of a sophisticated women.

[identity profile] monalyssasmile.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sarah is much prettier than Sara

[identity profile] tinylittlestars.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
To me, Sara and Sarah are pronounced differently...

[identity profile] tinylittlestars.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
To me, Sara is Sar-a, the first syllable rhyming with jar

[identity profile] tokossel.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
i pronounce sar-a like jar-a too, and sarah like sai-ra. but i know two sarahs who spell their names that way and pronouce it like jar-uh! one of them is american and the other is french-speaking. (& i'm british.)

[identity profile] liss07.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, it's pronounced that way to me as well, and I'm English.

[identity profile] rubytitania.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
I agree! I was really surprised nobody else seemed to think so. To me, Sarah is pronounced "Sair-uh" - the first syllable rhyming with "air".

I see Sara as being "Sah-ruh" - to rhyme with Tara.

[identity profile] tinylittlestars.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you on that 100%

[identity profile] ellycopter.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 11:32 am (UTC)(link)

but for americans, tara is tair-uh!

[identity profile] ellycopter.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:53 am (UTC)(link)

sara is pronounced sah-ra.

[identity profile] space-monkey340.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard them pronounced differently either.

[identity profile] liss07.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
Looks like it's a UK and Australian thing to pronounce them differently, so a country thing rather than a regional thing :)

[identity profile] traecrochet.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
My sister is Sara and she pronounces it just like Sarah. I've never liked Sarah at all; it looks too old-fashioned (and I love old fashion names).

[identity profile] home-to-me.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's funny, because my ideas on them are the opposite of yours. To me, Sarah is older, classier, ages better. And Sara looks more like a little girls' name to me.

[identity profile] zante.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
I agree :)

Sara is cute and childish, Sarah is womanly.

[identity profile] readreadme.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
My name is Sara pronounced Sair-uh. I always get people reading my name as Sar-ra. I prefer my spelling because its uncommon to have my spelling pronounced in that way. Or maybe I am just used to it ;)

[identity profile] miss-tee.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVE Sarah with an H about a bajillion times better than Sara without (no offense to any Saras)
When I see Sarah I think, lovely, elegant, complete
When I see Sara I think unfinished and cutesy.

[identity profile] anapology.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
different name in england. sara rhymes with car-uh sarah rhymes with hair-uh. i dont particuarly like either but i prefer sara. sarah is sooooo popular in my age group

[identity profile] maine-girl.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
To me it's like Jon and John. Much prefer the H.

[identity profile] miss-tee.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree about Jon and John. I feel the same way about Ann and Anne.

[identity profile] -------1997.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Sara seems,.. incomplete to me.

I just prefer Sarah, in my mind thats how its 'supposed' to be spelled.

As for age, I don't think it makes any diff.

[identity profile] lavandersparkle.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sara is more classier, sophistacated to me.

Sarah is just so plain to me.

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
If I see any difference it's the exact opposite of yours.

[identity profile] pap3r-heart.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm partial to Sara because that's my grandmother's name. She pronounces it just like Sarah. And I like it without the 'h' because less people spell it that way. Plus I feel like I've known a lot of plain girls named Sarah, so it's just "BLAH" to me.

[identity profile] sarahjewel.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I *hate* it spelled without the H.
I'm a Sarah. Maybe that's why? heh
It's the *original* Hebrew spelling and I think it should stay that way. :)
Sara seems lazy.

[identity profile] mooie-ziel.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
or maybe more efficient?

My friend Sara and I (Lea) were both "without the H." I think both ways are fine.

[identity profile] sarahjewel.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I suppose. heh
There is a downside to the H though:
Since there are so many without it now, people are forgetting WHERE to put the H in Sarah.
I get "Sarha" "Shara" (<--???) "Sahra" etc. It's ridiculous. haha

[identity profile] bexeh.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
to me their both different names, dropping the H is changing your name, i dont even associate sara and sarah as being the same name, their different names in my eyes, and i dont really picture anything, their both widely used.

[identity profile] hotchpot.livejournal.com 2006-11-06 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah makes me think of the Bible, and Sara makes me think of Sara Stanley, the Story Girl in Lucy Maud Montgomery's books.

[identity profile] thetruefalse.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Call me a traditionalist, but I like it with the "h".

[identity profile] septembergrrl.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Sara strikes me as a little artsier and more unique.

[identity profile] omgzits--tam.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be a little biased because one of my best friends is Sara.

But for SARAH, I picture a tom-boyish girl who's smart and funny. But SARA I picture as somewhat ditzy, and intelligent too.

(Funny, as I was doing this, a Sarah signed in on my MSN.)
