To me, Sarah is a kid and Sara is an adult.

This is my name (with the H) and I was thinking of dropping it.

What do you think?

[Poll #861145]

And also - what do you picture for each version, etc.?

I dont picture anything really for either, I just prefer the spelling Sara. Its less fussy.

I never thought of one looking younger and one older. To me Sarah is the traditional Hebrew spelling and most people I've known with that name have spelled it that way.

I personally do not see a difference, it's the same name and either spelling is fine with me. Personally I found changing my last name when I married to be a huge hassle and wouldn't bother with changing the spelling of my first name, but that's just me.

I like both, but I think Sarah looks a little bit more complete.

I am a Sarah, but I dislike that there are so many of us around.

Thus, to get around this, I go by Sera online and with friends.

Sara looks like it's missing something and reminds me of a really bitchy girl I went to school with. Sarah makes me think of a sophisticated women.

Sarah is much prettier than Sara

To me, Sara and Sarah are pronounced differently...

To me, Sara is Sar-a, the first syllable rhyming with jar

i pronounce sar-a like jar-a too, and sarah like sai-ra. but i know two sarahs who spell their names that way and pronouce it like jar-uh! one of them is american and the other is french-speaking. (& i'm british.)

I agree, it's pronounced that way to me as well, and I'm English.

I agree! I was really surprised nobody else seemed to think so. To me, Sarah is pronounced "Sair-uh" - the first syllable rhyming with "air".

I see Sara as being "Sah-ruh" - to rhyme with Tara.

I'm with you on that 100%

but for americans, tara is tair-uh!

sara is pronounced sah-ra.

I've never heard them pronounced differently either.

Looks like it's a UK and Australian thing to pronounce them differently, so a country thing rather than a regional thing :)

My sister is Sara and she pronounces it just like Sarah. I've never liked Sarah at all; it looks too old-fashioned (and I love old fashion names).

It's funny, because my ideas on them are the opposite of yours. To me, Sarah is older, classier, ages better. And Sara looks more like a little girls' name to me.

I agree :)

Sara is cute and childish, Sarah is womanly.

My name is Sara pronounced Sair-uh. I always get people reading my name as Sar-ra. I prefer my spelling because its uncommon to have my spelling pronounced in that way. Or maybe I am just used to it ;)

I LOVE Sarah with an H about a bajillion times better than Sara without (no offense to any Saras)
When I see Sarah I think, lovely, elegant, complete
When I see Sara I think unfinished and cutesy.

Sara seems,.. incomplete to me.

I just prefer Sarah, in my mind thats how its 'supposed' to be spelled.

As for age, I don't think it makes any diff.

Sara is more classier, sophistacated to me.

Sarah is just so plain to me.

If I see any difference it's the exact opposite of yours.

I'm partial to Sara because that's my grandmother's name. She pronounces it just like Sarah. And I like it without the 'h' because less people spell it that way. Plus I feel like I've known a lot of plain girls named Sarah, so it's just "BLAH" to me.

Date: 2006-11-06 05:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sarahjewel.livejournal.com
I *hate* it spelled without the H.
I'm a Sarah. Maybe that's why? heh
It's the *original* Hebrew spelling and I think it should stay that way. :)
Sara seems lazy.

Date: 2006-11-09 04:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mooie-ziel.livejournal.com
or maybe more efficient?

My friend Sara and I (Lea) were both "without the H." I think both ways are fine.

Date: 2006-11-09 03:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sarahjewel.livejournal.com
Yeah, I suppose. heh
There is a downside to the H though:
Since there are so many without it now, people are forgetting WHERE to put the H in Sarah.
I get "Sarha" "Shara" (<--???) "Sahra" etc. It's ridiculous. haha

From: [identity profile] bexeh.livejournal.com
to me their both different names, dropping the H is changing your name, i dont even associate sara and sarah as being the same name, their different names in my eyes, and i dont really picture anything, their both widely used.

Sarah makes me think of the Bible, and Sara makes me think of Sara Stanley, the Story Girl in Lucy Maud Montgomery's books.

I'll be a little biased because one of my best friends is Sara.

But for SARAH, I picture a tom-boyish girl who's smart and funny. But SARA I picture as somewhat ditzy, and intelligent too.

(Funny, as I was doing this, a Sarah signed in on my MSN.)
