After considering the pros and cons of the name Arabella, we have decided against it. It wouldn't be a cute name for an adult woman and I hate "Bella" or "Belle" which the child would more than likely be called.

How do you feel about the name Felicity?

Also, I find it amusing (I am not offended) by how everyone reacted to my name "Rohen" and how presise I was on the pronouncation and spelling. My original longing was to pronounce it "Rohan", but everyone kept on saying "Ro-hAn" when saying it. Or I got "row-win" like the spelling Rowan. I want more of a "Ro-in". Everyone told me to spell it "Rohen" and pronounce it to sound like hen. When I say it aloud, it sounds perfect... when I try to explain it... it's a mess.

I love Felicity. I don't have my list ranked in any order really, but in my head, it's getting toward the top.

I like Felicity a lot. Maybe not quite enough to use it, it is a touch frilly, but it's pretty and I love the meaning. And when everyone else says it reminds them of the tv show like that's a negative, Felicity was one of my favorite shows ever so I think the association is a good thing.

I do not like Arabelle largely because of Belle and Bella which I also hate.

I do like the name Ariella which seems similar to me. And I've known an adult Ariella and it suited her very well. It's a very pretty and unusual name. She got compliments all the time.

I do not understand the difference between row-win and ro-in.

I love Felicity. It's lovely.

About Rohen--I don't mind it at all. That spelling does create a sound similar to what you're describing, too ('d pronounce Rohan similarly, though, and it looks better IMO), but a point to consider would be that if it's so complicated to explain, it means the child would have to spend some time explaining it as well. However. If you love it and you're happy with it, it doesn't matter. I have to explain the pronunciation of my Hebrew name to pretty much everyone, and I can't say I mind it at all--but mainly because I love the meaning and know my parents gave it to me with such love. =)

(and pretty much everyone in the community loves her brothers name "Liam" aswell)

Nice name... not my usual style, not nice none the less.

Also, to elaborate on Rohen: I think the trouble falls with the H in the name. I want to say it with two discrete syllables: Row-Hen. And that makes it a bit choppy and difficult to say. Speech naturally slurs - that's how Katherine becomes Kathryn and Rohen becomes Rowan. It's just easier. What I worry for Rohen, and what you are discovering here on the board, is that pronunciation is taking the path of least resistance - "rowin'". Use the name if you are okay with that, but be aware that it's a real inevitability.

I guess I'm one of the few who's not a big fan of Felicity. It reminds me of the show, and a girl named Felicia whom I don't like. I prefer it to Arabella, though.

I really like Felicity!

Ok I understand your Rohen thing better now. Actually, I like the name Rowan, and it is the only boys' name with a "W" sound in it that I actually like! But I agree that it sounds much nicer with the "w" less emphasised. I don't think it's possible to enforce that though, because with different accents and ways of speaking, some people will pronounce it really disgustingly, no matter what the name is. Like my name (Claire), people with a strong australian accent pronounce it like two syllables -- like claya -- which I find gross, but oh well, they can't help it. So if I were you, I'd just call him Rowan, and pronounce it myself like Ro-in (which does end up having a tiny w in there anyway if you say it fast) and just not worry too much about how other people say it. The difference between Row-in and Ro-in is quite negligible in my opinion. But if it really bothers you then I'd suggest using another name because I think it's something that will be too hard to change.

I completely agree with you about Arabella. It's just too floofy and cutesy for an adult woman. I also hate Bella and Belle and that whole trend. I love Felicity. It's definitely in my top 10 and it's a great name that works for all ages.

I think I understand... and I think it's the way I already say Rowan. There isn't much W in that name to me. Same with Owen. It's not really O-wen, more like owin'.

Felicity is good - it's cute on a little girl and sophisticated on a woman. My boss is called Felicity.

I like Felicity. It was one of our possibilities. I prefer it to Arabella too.

I am understanding how you want to prn Rohen. I think that you will always hear the "w" type sound no matter how you spell it, bc that is how the long "o" sound is pronounced. like Roe-in. either way I still like it. :)

Funny, my top 3 are Amelia, Anabelle & Felicity- in that order.
BF is set on have a Felicity.

I think it's a name that suits all ages, it's very feminine, pretty & not too popular but comes with nicknames (i dont particuly like any except Fi)
His idea of a good name is something common like Ellie, thank goodness his favourite is one i love too :-)
