Brenna Elanor

wdyt?

(there is a special reason for spelling Elanor that way)

I would love it if you got over that special reason, but the spelling is so weird.

I do like the way it sounds though, and it's just a middle name. :)

Not a fan of the spelling of Elanor (I prefer Elinor) but I understand.

I like Brenna, but I have a bad association.

I don't really like it, but I don't dislike it either. Brenna is fine, I just don't care for Eleanor or Elanor.

I love Eleanor in general. Can you explain why you want to spell it that way? (I'm just curious, not condemning or anything lol)

Brenna is alright- don't love it or hate it. I think I'd like it better if it was somehow a NN for something. The two names do flow well together though so that's good.

I've heard that it's Irish Gaelic for "raven."

I like Brenna (it's one of my top names) but not a fan of Elanor. I guess if it's a family name it will be ok though.

They are both nice names but I don't think they flow well together.

me neither. i would probably call her Brelanor for fun. they have similar sounds and are really combinable, which is not good for distinct first and middle names.

Brenna Elinor would be nice.

Sorry the spelling just looks bad and doesn't make phonetic sense. There's no way for anyone to know of the "special reason" by looking at it, just that it looks wrong.

Really? That makes me curious as to how you pronounce the name. Because, even though I wouldn't use that spelling myself, "elanor" seems to make the most phonetic sense of all. I say it like "EL-uh-nor", but if anything the "uh" is closer to "a" than "i", it's the same sound as the a in Isabel.

So Eleanor looks like it should be "el-ee-nor" Elinor looks like it should be "el-in-or"....

How do you say it?

Eleanor is el-eh-nor, the eh is like the beginning of edible. I could accept your 'uh' sound here too but don't think it's as strong of a sound as in Isabel.
Elinor is el-ih-nor, the ih is like in the word lip.
Elanor would be be like el-ah-nor, the ah is like the beginning of apple.

The first two sound very similar to me. The last one sounds wrong.

That's how it goes in my head anyway. ;)

Ok cool, that makes sense. Yeah, the "a" sound in Eleanor and Isabel are exactly the same in my accent. I can't even pronounce it the way you do. I'm Australian... so if you're in the US it should be very different from me!

I love Brenna and Elanor (however you want to spell it).
but I'm not sure they flow well together "uh" @ the end of Brenna & "eh" @ the beginning of Elanor are too similar.

Its okay. I think Elanor looks really weird and it kinda messes with the pronounciation. Brenna is just kinda eh.

brenna is a little girls name. not an adults.

Haha it makes me think of a 50 year old woman ;) but that's because it reminds me of someone called Brenda. Interesting how we get completely different impressions of the name

i know, that is funny how we all have such different associations. when i see brenna, i think breanna (although i know the pronunciation is different) which i have a bad association with anyway. its so complicated! :)

My association with Elanor is the Lord of the Rings - I am pretty sure that that's the spelling that the hobbit Samwise uses for his daughter's name.

It's definitely Elanor in LOTR - it means "shining sun" or something in Elvish. I always thought it demonstrated a distinct lack of creativity... I mean, you've got Frodo, Samwise... Eleanor? Come on, JRR! You invented new languages, for heaven's sake!

I way prefer Eleanor, anyway :)

Elvish is based on Welsh, isn't it? Welsh stresses the penultimate syllable, so it's possible that this name is supposed to be stressed that way too.

I guess we'd have to track down a real Tolkein language geek to know.

Pretty. I love Brenna, and Elanor is nice. Don't like that spelling, but if there's a reason, go for it :)
