It's definitely Elanor in LOTR - it means "shining sun" or something in Elvish. I always thought it demonstrated a distinct lack of creativity... I mean, you've got Frodo, Samwise... Eleanor? Come on, JRR! You invented new languages, for heaven's sake!

I way prefer Eleanor, anyway :)

Elvish is based on Welsh, isn't it? Welsh stresses the penultimate syllable, so it's possible that this name is supposed to be stressed that way too.

I guess we'd have to track down a real Tolkein language geek to know.

ok ok some of you caught me--- it is the way Tolkien spelled it... but to me that is a family name (my name is Arwen)... Tolkien did base the elvish language on welsh...
