I'm a few weeks from having my daughter and was curious if you folks think the name we've picked works well with her brother and sister's names.
Her brother is Oliver Milo and her sister is Delilah Pepper. Unless she really doesn't seem to suit it, we were planning on calling her Lucy Marigold. What'cha think?

Also, an acquaintance on facebook posted her (fraternal) twin girl's first names and she's due in August- Kailee and Kailyn. I'm not digging it. Where do you draw the line for names being too matchy? I don't mind the same first initial but.. I think those sound way too alike.

Thanks! I chose names that made me smile to say, and this has been a difficult pregnancy so I especially wanted something really fun for her.

I'd confuse their names too, they're just so similar. They're actually going to be my son's step sisters, so I'm not looking forward to it. Plus I have tons of negative associations with the name Kailee from a horrible boss. Bummer!

Does Delilah have a nick-name, and do you ever plan on giving her one? Delilah and Lucy are fine, but Lily and Lucy might be a bit matchy.

We sometimes call Oliver 'Liver', and so Delilah ended up getting shorted to 'Deli'. My sister is trying very hard to figure out a nickname for Lucy that sounds sufficiently meaty, hahaha.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited. The girls will be about 11 months apart in age, so I figured having similar names (nouns for middle names) would be interesting.

I know someone whose 3 children (all single births) are Kayla, Kylie, and Kayden. I could never do something like that!

Oh wow, those are really similar names for their kids! Definitely not my thing, I can't imagine not mixing them up.

I'm hoping they all have a good ring to them, they're a lot more whimsical than some folk's tastes and that's ok with me. My friend named her children really long, gorgeous, and very serious sounding names. I love seeing the different styles people have for names, the more distinct the better.

I seriously dislike Kailee, it was the name of the worst boss I've ever had. Not looking forward to trying to keep them figured out one from the other, but I'm not all that surprised at their choice for names. The couple's taste is definitely lacking..

I like your name choices. I have this guilty pleasure type of love affair with Delilah because I ADORE the nn Lila/Lilah. So cute. Delilah Pepper gets a little cutesy for me, but it's still nice.

And Lucy Marigold is gorgeous. It flows so well.

I hate Kailee and Kailyn. I'm actually extremely picky when it comes to matchy sib-sets. I don't like alliteration, themes, or anything of that matter. I like names that are similar and in style and popularity. So for instance, Elizabeth and William or Noah and Sophia (while none of these names are my favorite, they make sense because of their popularity and style).

I adore Delilah's name, it just sounds so pretty. Hopefully my kids like their names, I'd be sad if I found out later that they hate them!

I am very picky about names, so I wondered if I was just being a jerk, but.. I hate that set of names for those girls. The parents haven't got much taste otherwise, so I really wasn't that surprised.

Now, your examples sound great together! I'm not a fan of using more common names like Elizabeth and William but together they really do work well together and have their own style.

They're all good names. I guess my only comment would be that to me Lucy sounds plain next to Delilah (one of my favorite name ever btw.) Like I think of Delilah as a beautiful sophisticated name and Lucy as a cute name. Does that make sense? That being said, I know how hard it is to find names that you love, so don't let my opinion bother you in the least.:)

That's my only real worry about Lucy- it's a lot more common than the other two names. The others are unique enough that I don't know anyone with the name, but common enough that people have heard of them. Lucy's definitely more used, but... I haven't found a name that really rings out like it does.

We thought about using Lucille instead of Lucy to give it more of a grown up feel, but I wouldn't ever call her anything but Lucy and I don't see the point of naming your kid one thing with the intention of calling them another, you know?

I really dug hearing your opinion, totally on track with my own.

I think Lucy Marigold is PERFECT with Oliver Milo and Delilah Pepper, same spunky but sweet and old fashioned feel, plus it's just gorgeous on its own. Love all of them, what a great bunch of names! :)

The twins - not so much.

I just met some twins (age 13ish) who were Demarcio and Demarcia. Their teacher came up to me (I was the registration person at an event) and actually said it like this: I've got De-marsh-ee-oo and De-marsh-ee-a, there's two of them. Haha.

Oh, wow. That's more than just matchy, that's... well, the same freakin' name. Wow. Did the mum get surprised by twins and just slightly change the name she'd picked out for the one kid she thought she'd have? That is mind boggling to me. I would mix them up something fierce!

Thanks! I loved the name Pepper and couldn't go with it for a first name, so middle it was. Turned out perfect because now the girls can both have nouns for their middle names- veg and flora!

All the names are really sweet. I saw mention of longer names for Lucy, while I think it's nice on it's own have you considered Lucia, Luciana or Lucinda.
I'm also struggling with the idea of giving one child a shorter name than the other. My daughter is Eleanor but our top pick for this bean, if it's a girl is Freya, and I feel like that's so much shorter and I can't really think of a good nick name for it.

The only thing I can say is have you thought about giving her a longer version of Lucy? My birth name was Katie and I always hated that my legal name was a nickname. To me it never sounded authoritative or professional; I hated being consistently referred to as a dimunitive. I changed it.

I knew twin girls in grade school called Francesca and Francisca - yikes.

Do you mind if I ask what you ended up changing it to? I was thinking of naming her Lucille but figured that I'd just be calling her Lucy exclusively anyway, so I might as well name her that. I'm still on the fence about it, because unlike my other kid's names she wouldn't have something mature sounding if she wanted.
