Jan. 22nd, 2011 12:19 amSo I live in the US and in a part of the country where the name Freya is not used AT ALL.
By some chance my friend said the name but she said it "Frey-ya." Whereas I would say "Frey-a."
How would you, Baby Namers, pronounce this name? I am going to be really embarrassed if both of us are wrong and it is pronounced a completely different way.
Also, do you prefer Juliet or Juliette? I can't decide. Right now I am leaning towards Juliet.
Edited to add:

Frey-YAH as opposed to Frey-ah. Like the y ends the first syllable and begins the first. Whereas the way I say it, the y ends the first syllable and does not carry over. "Frey- ah" Sounds completely different to me and the difference was easily noticed by both of us. I guess I just don't know how to spell phonetically. It is a small difference but still...

Date: 2011-01-22 08:45 am (UTC)Consciously, I would probably pronounce it Frey-a, but if I were being speech lazy or speaking fast, it would probably come out more like Frey-ya (heavy on that second "y").
I usually lean toward Juliette. I think it looks prettier, but sometimes I think it looks too princess-y... =/

Date: 2011-01-24 09:37 am (UTC)I totally get what you are saying about the "y". I think someone said they didn't see a difference between "yah" and "ah". I don't understand that...? I mean...the "y" completely changes the way you would say it. That is like saying "yapple" sounds the same as "apple."
PS...I love your Z icon! I think someone else in this community is a Like fan as well! Glad to see they are getting more fans!
