Discussion Post! Names You Hope(d) Never Become (or Became) Popular

Because you love them, of course! I'm a bit sad today because my favorite name Ariadne is the name of one of the main characters in Inception, so I'm hoping that nobody likes it enough to use often. So, members, what names do you hope/have you hoped never get the reply, "Oh, I've heard that before!"???

I am in LOVE with the name Cecily, I hope it never becomes popular because I don't want my future child to be one of a million girls with the same name like I was (My name is Jessica)

I'm Samaria; I've never met another one, but if my mom had had her way I'd be Jessica, Courtney, Asia, Amber... very 90s timestamped! I can't even imagine... And I think the name Jessica is quite pretty, too. :)

I love Emmeline (em-eh-line), but my husband's cousin just named their daughter Emmaline (emma-lean). I was crushed. Now I'm determined to use it anyway. But seriously, what are the odds? We never spoke about it at all. I thought I'd be perfectly safe to use that name whenever I wanted.

There's quite a few, since I really would like any name I give my kids to be uncommon, those most of them are girls names. I think it's probably because my sister and I have relatively uncommon names and it took us awhile before we met another one of each.

So, for girls, to name a few, Dreama, Olive, Blake, Ireland, Saoirse, Persephone. My boys names are a lot more popular, but Beau is my favourite, so I hope it doesn't become huge.

Octavaian! That is MY NAME. I mean, my future son's name. Augustus/Octavian is my historic boyfriend and I've loved him for so many years. If that name starts to get popular I will be so irritated because most people who use it won't be thinking of that sexy (hee) Roman at all. I'm devoted to him! In a normal sort of way.

Also Marigold. That's my number one girl's name right now. But flower names are always getting popular so I'm not hopeful...

I'm hoping that Alexander becomes less popular before my husband and I have a son because it's the only boy name we can agree on. I also hope that Malia doesn't become insanely popular because of Obama's daughter. I like it because it's a Hawaiian form of Mary which is Grandma's name.

I wouldn't mind if Hana became a little more popular because then people might be more apt to pronouce it the right way, Ha-na instead of Han-nah.

I have a Joshua. Initially, I was a little apprehensive about him having a top-10 name, but it hasn't caused any issues yet (he'll be 3 in December). When I checked the stats for Pennsylvania, it was lower on the list so the top names can certainly be more regional. I still love the name and it fits him perfectly.

Hahah I had the same thought when I saw the character's name in that movie. It's not one of my favorites, but I'd rather not see a bunch of trendy folks name their children horribly spelled versions of that lovely name.

For many years, my favorite name for a boy was Aiden. Well, we all know what happened to THAT.

My favorite girl's name is Willa. I hope it doesn't get popular.

I think I'm in luck because a lot of my favorite girls' names (Adele, Azure, Cerise, Viola) aren't even in the top 1000 (though, according to one site I would say Adele is, like, 1001 or 1002 lol).

Boys' names, OTOH, are a lost cause (Aidan, Landon, Nathan, Tristan, etc. etc.)

I think finding a good boy name is much harder than naming girls. There seems to be a much smaller pool to choose from.

I really adore Tallulah, and I hope it doesn't become too popular over the next ten years! First I have to somehow convince my boyfriend that it's an awesome name though... Would also be good if Clementine doesn't get too popular.

The boys names I like are already popular-ish, but would be good if Atticus isn't the next Jayden or something.

I used to really love the name Aidan in middle school (2000-2003). When it started rising and bringing all of its little minions with it, I was crushed. I guess it doesn't really matter because there are so many boys' names that I LOVE.

The only girls' names I really love are Sophie, Charlotte, and Iris, which are already way too popular, and so by the time I have kids they'll feel dated/out of style... Idk I have a feeling I'll let my husband/baby daddy choose girls' names if I have kids.

Freya. My husband really wants to use this name if we have another daughter, and I've agreed. It's not in the top 1000 but I can see it getting more popular because it has a Y in it.

Also Eleanor, as that's my daughter's name. It was 218 last year when she was born and it has been climing since 2000 but I hope it takes a sudden downturn!

Aidan was ruined for me, though I would still use it as a middle name. Gabriel has been my top boy name for over 10 years; Julian is #2. Miranda is my favorite girl name at the moment.

I have no idea what to do about boys. I like the name Justin and used to like Hunter...but I'm not sure anymore. They seem to be too common, IMO. Other names I like for boys are Levi and Liam, and those are WAY too popular for my taste, now.

I'm praying that Ezra (the name of our 15 month old) doesn't get too popular in the next few years.

We're pregnant with another boy and we can't find an uncommon name that we love. I really like Levi, but it's creeping up in popularity. My husband loves Liam and it's way too common at this point for me.
