Anna / Anne / Ann

Which one do you like more? Is there any reason for liking one more than the other?
Also, what middle names go well with either of those?
(I am trying to make up my mind... it has a sweet history in our family, my husband is so in love with the name, and so is everyone else - but not me, at least for now).

I like Anne. Anna seems like a different name to me, for some reason. Like, I'd never call an Anna "Annie" as a nickname. Ann just seems too short/truncated. The "e" on Anne makes it seem more elegant and complete to me.

Anna is my favorite. There's something very soft and sweet about it. My second favorite is Anne. It's pretty and simple. I've never liked Ann. I blame L.M. Montgomery.

That's why I love this community... for me, Anna / Anne were pretty much the same name.

IMO Anna is so much more elegant, beautiful and unique than Anne/Ann. I would definitely go with Anna over the other two. I actually kinda love it. It's classic and elegant and beautiful.

As for middle names you could do a longer one since it's short: Anna Charlotte, Anna Renee, Anna Elyse, Anna Brittany, Anna Danae, Anna Denise, Anna Lynne, Anna Piper, Anna Felicity, Anna Erin, Anna Celeste, Anna Quinn, there are tons of names that go with it IMO :)

My mn is Anne, too LOL. For a first name though, I'd vote for Anna unless you are double barreling it - like Anne Marie

Anna was my grandmother and my grand-grandmother name, and the one of my husband's grand-grandmother, too. So it makes total sense to have it honored, I just don't know how much I want it as a first name.

I like anna, it can be shortened to anne if the mood strikes me, or annie.

Anna/Anne aren't different names to me. I mean, obviously they are, but they're obviously similar. I wouldn't think it's weird for an Anna to be called Anne or Annie, but I would think it's weird for an Anne to be called Anna. so for that reason I like Anna better, because I like all three names and I like that there's options with it. The only one I don't like is Ann.

by "all three" I meant Anna, Anne, and Annie...I am tired and my grammar is lacking.

I like Anna the best, mostly because it just sounds pretty to me, and like it'd never sound out of date - I can see Anna fitting a 3 year old as well as a 83 year old - Ann/e seems kind of dated, though I like it spelled Anne better. Just feels classier.

That's one of my top choices as well! My mother was named Anna. She passed away suddenly last August and it would be hard to not include her name somewhere. :)Her middle name was Elizabeth.

Anna Elizabeth sounds beautiful.

Anne > Ann for spelling. Anne > Anna. All three are lovely, though, and they don't beat each other out by much. A great spot to exercise one's personal preference.

I like Annie best of all, but if it was me, Anne'd be the name, Annie the nickname.

I like the Ann* names, too. Annabelle, Annabeth, Annette, Annelise ... lots of spelling variations on each of these, too. Not to mention Anya.

I like Annie, too - it's just that I am not sure if it's going to age well...

As for Anya, here's the thing: we are from Russia originally, and Anya is the most typical nickname for Anna. So whatever we choose (I mean if we choose Anna/Anne/Ann), the baby is going to be called Anya for short by virtually everyone :)

I like Anne the best. It's my best friend's name, so perhaps I'm slightly biased, but it seems the most complete and the most classic and simple. I really like it with the nickname Annie, which yes, seems so common but honestly isn't anymore. It's one of my favorites.

I like more flowery or at least complex names with it: Anne Victoria, Anne Juliet, Anne Elizabeth, Anne Josephine, Anne Matilda, etc. It's a nice contrast, I think.

I really like Anna :) and if it wasn't part of my own name, I'd probably consider it :p (my name is Julianne, so it's not TECHNICALLY part of it, but it's close, so I tend to stay away from any -anna or -anne names :p)

I'm not really a big fan of Anne, myself - it sounds too plain. But I like it with the e on the end better than no e. But that's just my opinion :)

I like Anna the most. It's one of my top 2 girls names (along with Laura).
I think I just have a preference for shorter vowel sounds rather than the long drawn out "A" in Anne.

Plus I think that Anne is a bit more dated.. these days you are far more likely to see Susanna, Rosanna or Diana rather than Suzanne, Roseanne and Diane. Not that any of them are common names now, just that the -anne names sound more dated to me if that makes sense.

I really like Anna but I'm not a huge fan of Anne. I think Anni is really cute too but I've no clue if 'Anni' is used in any other country than mine (Finland).

It's so classic and plain and clean and fresh and sweet and simple but somehow elegant. Anna is kinda boring and the extra syllable takes away all the wonderful simplicity, and Ann is incomplete and dated-looking.

Anne is my #2 girl's name, and the reason it's #2 and not #3 is because of the adorable and nicely-sentimented nickname possibilities (Nan and elaborations). The combo I'd use would be Anne Frances, but for non-use purposes I love Anne Harriet, Anne Ginevra, and Anne Virginia.

I love Anna.

I wanted my daughter to be Anna Catherine.

Ann/Anne seems more like a middle name to me.

Oh, and another suggestion if you can't wrap your head around Anna/Anne/Ann: Anneliese.

I feel like Anna and Anne are separate names but I like them both very much. They're timeless and classical. The spelling Ann seems a bit stodgy and rural to me.

Anna. It sounds/looks the prettiest, plus I think it's more fun and up-to-date than Anne/Ann. Anne is a little drab to me, while Ann is just plain boring.
