Which of the two English pronounciations of Vera do you prefer? Which do you think is more common in America?

VEER-ə or VER-ə

ETA: Well, I'm highly disappointed, but thanks for everyone's input. I guess there won't be any little Vera in my future. :(

I have only ever heard VEER-ə, I definitely prefer it and would say it's the most common in America

Aside from my friend called Vera from Iceland, I've only ever heard VEER-a

I prefer VEER-a. I've never known anyone to pronounce it the other way.

I'm from Michigan. Although I will admit I've only heard the name said a few times and I don't think I've ever met anyone with that name. So it could be a coincidence that I've never heard it said the other way.

I just realized that people probably say it that way because of aloe vera and didn't know that it should be pronounced with a long e. That's probably why I do it.

I love both pronounciations but I prefer and have only heard people with the pronounciation of Veer-a.

I prefer VER-ə. That's the only way I've ever heard it pronounced. I definitely don't like VEER-ə. It just sounds weird to me.

My daughter is Vahr-A. I've only heard it one other time and it was pronounced Ver-a (as in Vera Wang).

I've only ever heard VER-a and would say it that way. VEER-a doesn't make sense to me, honestly.

I just don't understand where the long e sound is coming from! If it was spelled Veera that'd be one thing... but I just don't see how there's a long E sound in Vera.

It seems you've already made up your mind, but I read it as "Ver-A"

I've only ever heard VER-ə...the pronunciation VEER-ə has never even crossed my mind, actually. And I'm from California, if that helps.

My first thought was Ver-a.
I think Veer-a is horribly ugly. :(
