Which of the two English pronounciations of Vera do you prefer? Which do you think is more common in America?

VEER-ə or VER-ə

ETA: Well, I'm highly disappointed, but thanks for everyone's input. I guess there won't be any little Vera in my future. :(

I'd say VER-ə. That's the only way I've heard it said.

Do you mind if I ask where you are from? I still probably won't name my daughther this name anymore since I'm (we're) evidently in the minority, but I'm just curious.

I'm from Michigan. Although I will admit I've only heard the name said a few times and I don't think I've ever met anyone with that name. So it could be a coincidence that I've never heard it said the other way.

I just realized that people probably say it that way because of aloe vera and didn't know that it should be pronounced with a long e. That's probably why I do it.
