[identity profile] lethe-cat.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Usually news in my area does a story about the first baby of the new year. They mentioned her name :Emma and then went on to describe a story about another baby born on the way to the hospital.

The mother says she's been told that since she's struggling for a name for her new baby girl, she should name her after the street she (the baby) was born on: Scarlette Street.
The mother doesn't give a definitive answer.
What do you think about the name?

If you were named after the street you were born on/grew up on what sort of wacky name would you have?

Do you think its appropriate to be named after a street?

i say why not, if it could legitimately pass as a name. i was born in a hospital but if i was born at home and named after the street that my home was on, i would have been carson. which i actually really like.

not a fan of scarlet to begin with, and definitely not scarlette. the pronunciation is completely different, imo.

I like Scarlett, without that final e.

The house my parents lived in when I was born was on Rowland ----, but we've lived on Michelle ---- since I was in Kindergarten. I get called Michelle occasionally, since my name is Melissa and people will forget it, kinda weird I guess.

The address for the hospital I was born in is the same as the city, as in North [Cityname] Road, so... ew. It's definitely not a suitable first name, I will just say that.

Ha. I remember being in first grade and our teacher was asking us about why we were named whatever we were named... one of my classmates was named "Justin" because the mom arrived at the hospital "just in" time for him to be born there, and not in the car on the way there.

Scarlett is my favorite female name, but I don't like the extra e. Depending on the street name, I think it'd be more interesting of a story to be named after that than just "we liked it."

I lived on too many streets, I don't know what my street name would be. But right now I live on Edith, and it was actually my great grandma's name.

I was born on Louise Street, grew up on Main and North 4th, and currently live on Willow.

Louise and Willow actually aren't bad, lol.

None of my street names work as people names:

Westwood
Westgate (yes both one word)
or Still Moon

Scarlette is pretty.

I could see Still Moon as a hippie name.

The street we lived on when I was born was Nez Perce(I'm not entirely sure I spelled that right).

My other streets were
Bobolink
Davidson
Windmill
Van Teylingen
Winewood
Hopeful
Firenze
Broad
Lake Club

I am named after a street (one my dad grew up on). I like it, it's original and pretty. Think it just depends on the name.
I hate the spelling Scarlette. Scarlet is nice, though.

The hospital I was born at was located on Engle St. I guess Engle wouldn't be the worst name in history, but it's pretty bad.

Could be worse.
Fallsbury if home.
Stuart if the hospital--which is actually a family name, funny enough.

I'd be named Camp. Ick.
I've also lived on Pugsley and Fern. Not much better, IMO

Scarlett could be worse. Oh wait, it was... the extra 'e'!!! :P

OH and I was born in St.Mary's hospital, so I have two viable names from that and one weird one :P

I like the name, but the last e is kind of pointless and I'd drop it.

For me, I'd be Austin... which I like, but it's a boys' name :P

My boyfriend would be East Williams lol... almost a name.

my ex would've been East Third though lol. Ahh, Manhattan streets...

A few of the streets I've lived on: Red Maple, Portland, Marlborough, West Weldon. I guess Maple and Weldon could be used as names, but... *gags*

I don't like Scarlett(e).

I've lived on a lot of streets, none of which would make viable female names:

Sullivan (Road)
Purcell (Road)
Crossbill (Place)
Half Oak (Crescent)
Delius (Street)
Sorrel (Close) (hmm, maybe...)
Allesley Old (Road)
Whoberley (Avenue)
Portland (Street)
Barton (Grove)
Brixton (Road)
Brighton (Terrace)
Terrapin (Road)
Norfolk House (Road)

I was brought home to US HWY 18, so not a good choice for a name.

I grew up on Cora Lee Lane, which would have been nice.

I live on Dorris Lane right now, and ew, I hate that name.

I'd drop that e on the end, but if you can't think of anything else, why the hell not?

We moved a lot, so just picking where my mom lived when I was born, I'd be named Marcia, which is not terrible. Better than the other streets we lived on while I was growing up. ;)

I'd be Jenny Lynn, Heather, or Carriage.

Pretty weird that 2 out of 3 are perfectly viable girl's names.

I grew up on Musket, but when I was born we lived on Bustleton so either one is pretty terrible.

I think Scarlett (without the e on the end) is a really pretty name and I approve. I wouldn't ordinarily name my kid after a street though.

I was born in Germany and the hospital was located on: Mariahilfbergweg. Which in English would be Mariah Hilfber Street. Mariah wouldn't have been terrible, but Mariahhilfber as single name...haha.

I lived on Nuremburger Street while in Germany and once we moved to the States, we lived (and still do) out of city limits, so no street name.

I kind of was named for the street that my parents lived on when I was born. My mom denies it now, but I am Amanda May and my parents lived on May Street. My mom isn't known for her creativity. She once named a puppy we had after the first name that she saw on a billboard when we were bringing it home, so I'm pretty sure that her inspiration for my middle name came from the street name.

I've lived on two streets in my life, both of them Elizabeth. Which, would be boring, but I guess I could deal with that.

My middle name is Layne, which literally, is another word for street. So yes, very appropriate, I guess.

The street I lived at when I was born was Iris. So I guess that works as a name. Then I livee on Shannondoe, which would be a strange name and now Saltspring.
So only Iris works I guess.

I was born at a hospital, and it was on Hercilio Luz Ave. and Hercilio is a boy's name around here so.. yeah, not good! haha

I've no idea what the names of any of the streets were that I lived on before I was five... then we moved here and this road only had a number until about fifteen years ago... now, it's Chapdelaine. A name of a family that lived about a mile from here. It's french, and I'm not, so that would be strange. But, stranger since, I could be named 'Middleton Memorial' from the hospital parking lot I was nearly born in!
