[identity profile] darabelle.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
At my sister's wedding Saturday night I was talking to this woman who works with my dad. She's 6 months pregnant with a boy and I asked her and her husband if they knew what they were going to name him yet. They said they are thinking about Colin (or Collin, I didn't ask how they're spelling it) and I said, "Oh, that's a nice name." Then the husband said, "And we are thinking of Logan for the middle name."

GASP.

Me: Oh. No, don't do that. Too many "in" sounds. That's not good. Please don't name your kid Colin Logan.

I sincerely hope they consider my advice. Maybe I can save this kid from a lifetime with a terrible name.

Oh, and did I mention that the last name ends with an "in" sound as well?

People just don't think.

Yeesh.. that sucks.

That's almost as bad as someone a while back suggesting that my husband and I name our son 'Owen Aiden' [last name Dunn].

Umm.. no thanks, we'll stick with Owen Scott tyvm!

If these people are smart they'll give poor Colin a different middle name and save Logan for a future child or something. *sigh*

I think Colin Logan sounds okay, but with the last name, it might be over the top. However, you don't normally use the middle name anyway, so it could work. Maybe.

In other news, your icon--the quote--it's from Will & Grace--YAY! \o/

Haha, me too. I like Erin, but a rhyming name is fucked up.

I could see you being an Erin--just not with Karen as a middle name, LOL.

Erin and Karen don't rhyme to me. Must be an accent thing? :)
It would be pretty messed-up to have a name like Stacey Casey or Marcy Carsey or something.

As I said, it must be an accent thing. :) I would not say Air-in. I know to some people Carrie and Kerry sound alike but to me they are completely different.

Oh, good, I am not alone! :) I think it's along the same line as merry/marry. Those sound completely different to me but a lot of people pronounce them the same. I have a bit of an Irish twang, though, so I don't know what your excuse is. :)

I don't think it's as BAD as you make it out to be, heh, but I do agree that it's not a good plan. I don't even think Colin should be it's name if their last name ends with "in." The in in in sound just doesn't work, you're right there.

Haha, yeah, I mean, I figured. I didn't figure you like jumped down their throats, haha, though that might make for an amusing story. ;)

I agree. my ss is Logan Allen Bergin. (nevermind that he's got the in sound he's got the gin sound on the 2 names people say together the most, fn & ln) *throws hands up* I am not responsible for that in any way.

For me, it's not the 'in' sounds that are offensive, it's the Lin-Lo that ties my tongue in knots.. LOL

Ditto! It's the repetitive "luh-luh" going on.

Although if the last name ends with the same type of sound then yes it is also too much in-an-in stuff.
