Tell me some names you love but just can't use because nobody could pronounce them where you live. For example, you might like a really Russian name, but you live in the US and you know nobody is going to get it right. My answers are in the comments.

Are there any you love enough that you would use even though you know nobody could pronounce them right?

I love Vasiliy, Zaira, and Franziska, but I don't think I could use any of them here. I might consider Zaira as a middle name.

I met a Zaira in Spain and love love loooved her name. I mostly liked the way it was pronounced there, more like thEYE-dah with their slight "lisp" and rolled r's.

oh gods so many names... Rhiannon right now is topping the list as people in spanish sort of spaz when they see it. Paul is another... people can't pronounce it in spanish... it's one of those 'spaz' names too.

Saoirse, I would definitely still use. Ioan as well. I love them. I correct a lot of people on my name (despite it not being that difficult), so I would just tell my kid to do the same. I can see people maybe having a little trouble with Bijou, but probably not as much as Saoirse or Ioan.

Names I won't add to my list are Caoimhe and Niamh.

my grandmother was born Chiara and people just called her Kay here (her parents came right from Italy and had her in some of their first years here in America

I currently live in the southern US and no one here can even manage my son's name "Liam" which is hardly difficult. Whenever I tell people his name they say, "Oh, that's interesting/different/unique." No, not really, but thanks.

Adrasteia - I love the meaning to the point that most of me doesn't care that the state of Texas wouldn't know where to start LOL! Part of though worries lol.

I'd still use Rhys, Ioan, Ewan, Cillian, Cian, Ianthe, and Athenais lol.

Aoife I like but know that no one would ever ever ever get it right in the US.

My Irish cousin's new baby is called Aoife. I had to look it up the first time, heh. Orla is the name of my other cousin's daughter. I think Orla is lovely to say, not as hard to prounce and might be a nice Irish alternative. Oh, and my other cousin's son is called Rhys. Haha. :)

In France, there's always a problem with the pronounciation of names ending with "an". I love Dorian but here they wouldn't pronounce it right and I hate it with the French "an" sound at the end. Some people spell those names with "ann" to indicate how it should be pronouced, but I hate that too (Doriann - it just looks ridiculous!). And what is even more annoying is that, if you tell people the "an" must be pronounced like "ann", they just thought it sounds like a girl name (Doriane, in this case).

Also, the Italian name Chiara... I would probably have to spell it Kiara to make sure it's always pronounced correctly, but k is no even a letter in the Italian alphabet.

Anders. My parents were actually going to name my brother Anders, but they knew everyone would mis-pronounce it. So they named him Kurt instead...
I would name my son Anders also if I lived in Scandinavia.
