I'm confused about this...

With month names (April, May, June, September, etc) should the child be named that only if they're born in that month? What if say, you were born in April but named October? Would that be too weird? I love month names...

I would actually avoid april being called april if she was born in april heeh. I don't see April, May or June as month names tho', I guess they're more mainstream than September or December.

I have a few cousins who were named after months they were not born in. Julio (July) was born in April and April was born in May. My old coworkers daughter is September and she was born on my birthday, the end of April lol I don't think it would be a big deal. ;)

Some people would say so. I would say the opposite. I think that if the only significance of the month is that it's when they were born, it's not worthy of being a name. You might as well just name them their full date of birth, like always just refer to me as the 5th of January 1985, instead of a real name. However, if you love the name of a month because of some other reason - maybe that month has always brought happiness, it's the start of spring, or you like what the month actually means or the goddess it was named after etc - then you could name the child that, the same way you would use any other name. It's fine to call a girl May if she was born in July.. but having said all that, if you happen to love a month name and plan to use it, but then your child gets born in that month, that shouldn't stop you using it if you really love it.

I hope this made sense, I've been really incoherent lately

It would be weird but not for all name months. April, for example means "opening" so I don't see a problem for someone born in October being named April, but vice versa I'm not too sure. But if you like the name, go for it. There are definately weirder out there!

Never heard of it from people born in that month, but it could be either really! Just make sure you like the name, that's what really matters! My granny's middle name was May and her birthday was in May, but I've never met a first name month with the same name as the month they were born in, but I don't think it matters

I think April, May and June are widely used enough to be used at any time of the year. I think that people with less-used month names, like October, are going to have a lot of people asking "Oh, so were you born in October?" which could get obnoxious. Personally, I don't really see the appeal - a lot of month names are beautiful words, but they are weird as names. What does "September" or "December" even mean on a kid, you know?

I agree. I don't really consider April, May, and June "month names", even though they obviously are, because they're fairly common. Honestly, I think using any other month as a name is just ridiculous. Why on earth would you name your child October?

April, May, and June are the only acceptable "month" names IMO, and they are fine for girls born in any month, I think. September, October, etc are all so wannabe-goth.

September and October etc. just makes me think of Wednesday from the Addams family, so I agree with that wannabe-goth thing. =P

I really don't think it matters if a April baby is named May. If you like the name you like name simple as that. I actually find it a tad cheesy if a April baby is named April - to me it's almost as the parents just looked at the calender when asked for a name. I am sure for 98% of the times that is not true though. :-)

My husband and I have decided our first daughter will have the middle name June no matter what month she's born. After his mother's middle name.

A friend's stepsister was born in September and her name is April.

I actually think it is corny and cheesy if your child is born in a month and named the same thing (born in May, named May).
