I'm confused about this...

With month names (April, May, June, September, etc) should the child be named that only if they're born in that month? What if say, you were born in April but named October? Would that be too weird? I love month names...

It would be weird but not for all name months. April, for example means "opening" so I don't see a problem for someone born in October being named April, but vice versa I'm not too sure. But if you like the name, go for it. There are definately weirder out there!
