How would you spell Noel to make it rhyme with Lowell and have people know it's a boy not a girl or a holiday :-p.

I grew up in a town called Lowell, and it was practically one syllable, so that's how I say it. I think Nole is as close as you're going to get.

Noel already rhymes with Lowell. Noël doesn't. It would only be feminine as Noelle or Noëlle.

except that Noel is how we spell the word used at Christmas...whether it's supposed to have the 2 dots or not. That's what people would say.

It's also the name. Sometimes it's spelled "Nowell" (I have seen the song lyrics as "The First Nowell"), but the name is usually Noel, and "Nowell" for name or holiday gives me itchy itchy hives so I can't recommend it.

Nole.

I had a softball coach named Nole once and that's how he spelled it.

I have a friend named Nolan and so if you take the begining of his name and add an E I think youd get the sound your looking for :) Nole :) I also have a friend named Nola (a girl) I think they are both nice names Nole and Nola :)

I have a cousin named Knoel Christian. We call him Knoel and it sounds like "foal".

Another thought.

I think on Felicity, the guy spelled it "Noel" and it was always pronounced as you want it...not No-ell.

Ok I'm confused. Is Lowell pronounced like "lo-well" (2 syllables) or does it rhyme with "coal" ? I thought it would be Lo-Well until people seemed to be replying as though it was one syllable... :S

I've heard Nole, and maybe Noel (without the dots) if you want it to be pronounced with one syllable. But if you're wanting two syllables then maybe Noell? I'm not sure.

How does everyone pronounce the name Joel? For me it rhymes with coal...and it's spelled like Noel. Nole is probably the least ambiguous though.

I've known two guys named Noel spelled Noel and pronounced just like, as someone said, rhyming with Joel.
