My husband and I have a long surname (10 letters) so we need something elegant (and unfortunately for our unborn child, slightly long). I must confess a passion for long names.

If we have a boy:
Nicholas
Robert
James
Gavin

If we have a girl:
Nicola
Elise (short for Elisabeth)
Victoria
Lilliana (or Lillian/Lily)
Alessa (Alessandra)
Chloe (although living in the UK, we tend to get quite a few Chloe's here).

I love every single one of those, but especially Nicholas, Gavin, Nicola, and Victoria. And I really like Alessandra, too. Adorable names :)

If we have a boy:
Nicholas - Always a good solid name!
Robert - know too many of them, not really fond of the name anymore
James - Kinda on the sort side if you were thinking of long, but I have always like the name.
Gavin - Really dislike it.

If we have a girl:
Nicola- I think this is really pretty, and nicer sounding then Nicole
Elise (short for Elisabeth) - It's ok
Victoria - Love this name, but hate the nicknames for it.. so it's
Lilliana (or Lillian/Lily) - Really like this and the nicknames
Alessa (Alessandra) - It's Ok
Chloe (although living in the UK, we tend to get quite a few Chloe's here). I like this name as well.

:)

Nicholas - LOVE it. I'm a sucker for Nicky as a nn too.
Robert - eh, I don't like the nn's that come from this name.
James - love it!
Gavin - cute

Nicola - pretty!! never heard of it before, I like it!
Elise (short for Elisabeth) - adorable, I love Elisabeth and Elise :)
Victoria - eh it's okay
Lilliana (or Lillian/Lily) - lovelovelove Liliana.
Alessa (Alessandra) - cute... not a huge fan of Alessandra, but Alessa is a cute nn.
Chloe (although living in the UK, we tend to get quite a few Chloe's here). - eh I'm over this name, I guess.

I love the name James so much and Nicholas is nice because of the nn Nick. *g*.

The girl names are all really nice.
A friend of mine is called Alessa but she has no nn because she doesn't like Ali and everything else doesn't really work. So that's the only bad thing about that name.
I've always liked Elise and Lily and Chloe is pretty nice, too.
I don't really like Nicola and Victors (because I always think of Victoria Beckham right away.)

I love Nicholas and James for a boy. Robert is nice too.

My first vote for a girl would be Lilliana/Lillian/Lily, because that's what I plan to name my daughter (assuming I ever have one). :) But I also like Nicola, Elise (and Elisabeth) and Victoria. Aless/Alessandra and Chloe are also lovely, but I like the other names slightly better.

But in all, great choices!

Nicholas- I love Nico as a nn
Robert- bit boring for me
James- traditional, good name but there's a lot of them!
Gavin- Henson.. ehh i dont like this much

If we have a girl:
Nicola- don't like it at all
Elise (short for Elisabeth)- beautiful
Victoria- beckham, im sorry, she ruined a perfectly good name!.. the nn Vicky is a bit tacky...just my opinion.. vicky pollard?
Lilliana (or Lillian/Lily)- beautiful
Alessa (Alessandra), beautiful.. is Alessa pronounced al-es'uh or more like Alyssa?
Chloe - yeah, there are a lot of Chloe's but it's still a lovely name... and i think it's moving down in the stats.

I LOVE Lily/Lillian/Liliana. Alessa and Victoria are great, too, although Victoria might be a bit much with a really long last name (as might Liliana, I guess.) Really, though, I like all the girls' names on your list. I'm not nuts about Gavin, but like the other boy names, especially James (common, but a great name.)
