Secondly - does the fact that it's a Jewish name pop into your head as soon as you hear it? Would it be weird for a Catholic person to name their kid this?
I always associate it with Shoshanna Lonstein, so in a way I also associate it with being Jewish. It is such a pretty name, though, and I think being multi-culti is awesome, so I don't think it would be weird. Might be hard to match it with a middle name, though.
Well then on the same token, I could say that the name "Lucindrielle" makes me immediately think "White trash". But I wont. Because its just a name. And thats my opinion.
You can think whatever you want. Doesn't bother me, any.
Besides which, if someone claimed that they didn't have certain preconcived ideas when any given name popped into their head, 10 to 1 says they'd be lying. Same way some names make people think "old lady" or "sophisticated person".
It doesn't *sound* Jewish to me, but I know that it is. I always associate it with Shoshana Bean ... I kind of like it, I don't think it has to be off-limits if you're not Jewish.
The fact that it's a Jewish name would get me wondering about the kid's heritage, but not to the point I'd think of it as weird if he had a different background.
My only problem with Shoshana is that I HATE how it sounds. I can't stand that shush-shush thing.
I actually don't like the name, how it looks or in particular, how it sounds. It's not very attractive to me.
But yes, I do automatically think Jewish. I think of Shoshanna Lonstein and Jerry Seinfeld. I wouldn't think that it would be weird, exactly, I would just always think that they were Jewish.
Its a HEBREW name, I wouldn't say a "Jewish" name. But if you like it, why not? I knew a girl named Shoshana who wasn't Jewish and though people asked her if she was a lot, she loved her name.
I was supposed to be named Shoshana but my parents named me a different Hebrew name, Sheera, meaning something a kin to "Melody".
It's not my cup of tea, but not bad. Its origin doesn't immediately pop into my head, so I don't think it'd be too weird if a non-Jewish person used it.

And really, Shoshanna does NOT fit in with those names in the stereotypical sense that you're trying to convey.

You don't have to agree with my opinion - but when I hear those names, I immediately think "hooker".

I do see this as a primarily Jewish name, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it on a non-Jewish person.

Shoshana is the Hebrew version of Susanna, and both the names mean Lily, if that helps at all.
