Nov. 21st, 2008 11:45 amWe couldn't come up with a name throughout this pregnancy, finally baby was 4 days old and we decided she needed a name.
Orginally I wanted something that included Elliot as its a family name and we don't plan on having anymore children (and obviously have not had boys) and really loved the name Adelle. SO didn't like it as much but we agreed on Addie, both girls liked it as well.
So we settled on
Addison Elliot Rose.
He got his name, we got Addie, Elliot and Rose are for our grandparents.
Its pretty popular at the moment :( But he wouldn't budge on Adelle:(

But Addison or Addie... I couldn't decide. It is better to go with a legit feminine name, not a nickname or a made up monstrosity most would be incapable of pronouncing incorporating trendy elements.

Date: 2008-11-25 08:21 am (UTC)It is natural to judge people on looks (at least at the start of any relationship [romantic, platonic, any type]) and that extends to names, part of your identity! The impression people get from a name is crucial to how seriously they take you, how you are going to be treated and more.
Addie is a nickname. Possibly for Adele, Adelaide, Adeline, something legitimate. Addison is a surname, improperly used as a first name (and even moreso on girls). There is, actually, a difference.

Date: 2008-11-26 07:09 am (UTC)This is a weird topic for me. I'm stuck between saying which is worse: a nickname as a name or a -son name for a girl. Is there no option c? I stand by my opinion that Addie and Addison are both bad full names, but at least with Addison it is not as childish as a perpetual nickname for a name and most people do not know better/pick up on (unfortunately) that is is a boy name and a surname.
Now, what are you banging on about?
