[identity profile] mamiesgoo.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
We couldn't come up with a name throughout this pregnancy, finally baby was 4 days old and we decided she needed a name.

Orginally I wanted something that included Elliot as its a family name and we don't plan on having anymore children (and obviously have not had boys) and really loved the name Adelle. SO didn't like it as much but we agreed on Addie, both girls liked it as well.

So we settled on

Addison Elliot Rose.

He got his name, we got Addie, Elliot and Rose are for our grandparents.

Its pretty popular at the moment :( But he wouldn't budge on Adelle:(

I am not a fan of Addison but I do like Addie. Overall I think it's a nice name. :) Congrats!

If yu wanted Addie, I would have gone for either Adeline or Adelaide.
A lot less trendy than Addison.

But your baby is adorable :-)

Oh please don't sound so sad!
You have a beautiful baby, you love her nickname which she'll go by mostly- I'm sure you'll grow to love it once she gets older and it fits her properly

:-)

WELCOME ADDIE!!!

*smiles*

When my son was born...our first...we had no boy names. We were sure that we'd have a girl, even though we both wanted it to be a surprise. We had a list of boys names, but none we agreed on.

Finally, on his third day of life I started asking him what his name was. "Is your name Preston?" It wasn't. "How about Blaize?" Nope. "Sterling?" No way mom. "Rhys?" That's my name!!

He literally named himself. I'm so glad he did, because he died the next day, and it would have been so much harder without knowing his name, if that makes any sense. (He had a heart defect that was incompatible with life, but it went undetected...we took him home and everything.)

Anyway, sorry to interject my story there, but I totally feel you on the four days and still no name!! Don't you hate it when husbands get all opinionated about names? We had our girls name picked out long before we ever got pregnant...and when she was born three and a half years after her brother, (whose full name ended up being Rhys MacCaskill Lachlan) Ripley Honor Elora came into the world already fully named. (We went back and forth about the middle names...Honor was always going to be one...but we also liked Killashandra from the crystal singer books...but in the end I nixed it. Elora is made from her three great grand mother's names, Elenore, Lois and Orpha)

Addison Elliot Rose is lovely. I feel you on the compromise, but it is a beautiful name, and when do we get to see a picture???

Thank you. It's been eleven years, but he's been on my brain alot lately. (stupid depressive streak *grumble*) Mostly because my doula who helped deliver my daughter (see icon) and orchestrated an online baby shower with the group of people we met through (Abortion debate of all things!!) for me...well...she called last week, and her brother's newborn died. And she called to ask me what she should do, what she shouldn't do...stuff we'd talked about in the past, but it's different now because it's personal.

Anyway...it's okay is what I'm trying to say, but I thank you. It's not okay...it's NEVER okay...(neither is my habitual abuse of ellipsis...) but yeah.

:)

I feel like I *shouldn't* like Addison, because of how trendy it is and whatever, but I can't help liking it. Partly because of the Grey's Anatomy influence hehe. But I also love Addie, especially that spelling. I think Addison Elliot Rose sounds beautiful. (And I like Addison better than Adelle).

Uuugh. I disagree with this post on many counts. Nicknames are not stand alone names in most cases, and what is more important? A very cute and pretty (:]) name or one that'll get her taken more seriously in life and not disadvantage her? Gosh, gee, um, I'll have to think about that.

Also, sounding legit =/= legit.

But Addison or Addie... I couldn't decide. It is better to go with a legit feminine name, not a nickname or a made up monstrosity most would be incapable of pronouncing incorporating trendy elements.

Would you rather be operated on by a Emilia Smith or an Addie Smith? A Bronx Mowgli Smith or an Adelaide Smith? A Pilot Inspektor - We could play What If? all day. I trust you get the point.

It is natural to judge people on looks (at least at the start of any relationship [romantic, platonic, any type]) and that extends to names, part of your identity! The impression people get from a name is crucial to how seriously they take you, how you are going to be treated and more.

Addie is a nickname. Possibly for Adele, Adelaide, Adeline, something legitimate. Addison is a surname, improperly used as a first name (and even moreso on girls). There is, actually, a difference.

If they have identical medical degrees. My apologies, I thought that was a given in this game.

This is a weird topic for me. I'm stuck between saying which is worse: a nickname as a name or a -son name for a girl. Is there no option c? I stand by my opinion that Addie and Addison are both bad full names, but at least with Addison it is not as childish as a perpetual nickname for a name and most people do not know better/pick up on (unfortunately) that is is a boy name and a surname.

Now, what are you banging on about?

He wasn't thrilled about Adele, you aren't thrilled about Addison.

Your child is named Addison. This is unfair, no? It isn't too late to change, hon.

Oh dear. I hope she grows into this name for you quickly - you have enough to worry about right now without being sad about not loving her first name. I am certain she will, and in a few weeks you won't be able to imagine her with any other name.

That being said, I love Addison, even though it is popular and trendy. It's a wonderful name. And Rose is delightful! (It's my name)

Don't love Elliot but understand with the family thing.

Two middles are a bit of a hassle but w/e. It was a bit tl;dr at first so I just saw the name and thought, "Wow, that's courageous. Naming a boy Rose."

Errr.

I really, really don't like Addie, but personal connotations aside, it's just a nickname. Therefore I am indifferent towards this.

You were so close to something beautiful: Adele. And Eliot could have been... I don't know. Eleanor. Ellen. Those sound mushed with Adele... Helena (prn. he-leh/lay-na), even. Sounds better. Adele Helena Rose.

Wow. Adele is lovely.

Addison, on the other hand, is definitely not.

But regardless of the name, you have a beautiful, healthy girl! She is lovely. Congratulations from my far corner of the earth.

She's adorable! Congratulations =)

I'm not really a fan of Addison, but I've always liked Elliot on girls...more as a guilty pleasure than anything else, though. Still, I think Addison Elliot Rose sounds really nice!
