[identity profile] ladyjp.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I'm not planning on having kids for a few years yet but I love thinking about their names. I'm Scottish and I think I'm fairly traditional with names. My last name is Scott but I'm hopeful I would be married to my boyfriend whose surname is Hill.

My favourite girls name is: Rachel Catherine

I don't really have many ideas other than that - I have a big feeling that I will only have boys but who knows! I'd love more girl names!

Boys names are much more difficult. I like:

Michael (not sure my boyfriend would let me use this as this is after my favourite racing driver!)
Andrew
David (boyf's middle name so probably a no)
Matthew
James

Any suggestions?

Such traditional names are strong and nice... but they're not really my style...

Rachel Catharine is nice, though. Very simple, but beautiful.

It's not a shame, it's a psychology ;)))
Anyway, Jimmy is the cutest name for a boy of any age

Michael, Andrew and David are nice classic names, which I probably wouldn't use.

If you like traditionial names alot what about William, George, Henry, Patrick, Thomas, Alexander, Daniel and Robert. Just throwing names out there.

some of my top boys names are max, lucas, oliver and eli (havent decided on the full name of that one yet, either elias or elliott). james is nice though, out of your list, again, i just wouldnt use it. but theres absolutely nothing wrong with any of the names youve picked out, and theres definitely something to be said for the standards with all the crazy yoonik names people are cursing their kids with these days!

I love the name Rachel. Of course I'm biased, since it's my name. But it's so simple and classic and cute for a kid and professional for an adult and...just right in all the right places! Plus I like the meaning: "motherly, like a lamb." Certainly fits me. :)

*confused*.... but a lamb is a baby, not a mother ?

LIKE a lamb. As in gentle and sweet.

Oh I see... so you meant that it has both those meanings (motherly, and like a lamb)...
I read it as "motherly like a lamb" - as in, motherly in the same way that a lamb is motherly... and was like -huh?!

But Rachel is a lovely name :)

OH I see why you interpreted it that way. I should have used a semicolon instead of a comma..they're two separate meanings. "motherly" and "like a lamb" as in gentle.

Haha and I should've read your second comment before replying :)

Lambs are adorable, and often symbolise innocence/purity

ooh, good one. I would much rather use a lamb as my own personal symbol! I went with the lily. not that this is official, but was a confirmation project back in the day. so, uh... totally doesn't matter :) my first and middle names mean pure, young one (katharine-paige). lambs are way better than lilies.

i love rachel catherine! that's very pretty and classic.

Andrew is our #1 and only pick for a boy. Andrew James Jr.
We are thinking Colin Patrick for a second boy. I tend to like more irish/english sounding names, and well as the all-americanized Bible names, like Andrew, James, Joshua :)

I didn't know that about Andrew. It was my pick long before I met my andy. it's a family name. Yay Scotland! give my dead clan a prettier tartan!
