Celebrity Influence?

My hubby and I rarely agree on girl names but we had long ago agreed on Erica........then Erica Christensen got big. Yes, that is also our last name, spelled exactly the same.

So am I right, would it be cheesy to use Erica now??

And I know I'm gonna get alot of "if you like it use it" but won't that be the first thought that comes to mind upon hearing it, in which case I don't want to use it?

I always wanted a baby named Will and then I met my SO who's last name turned out to be Smith so I'm kinda in the same boat :/

I think I'd use it anyways tho

[identity profile] alocin.livejournal.com 2006-01-30 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Who's Erica Christensen? :/

I probably wouldn't use it if it was the same name as mine, kinda sucks but the kid will be teased and stuff I imagine.. :/

[identity profile] alocin.livejournal.com 2006-01-30 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I gathered that.. I just have no idea who she is or what she's been in (I'm hopeless with names tho')

I did google her tho', at least she spells Erica differently?

[identity profile] glitterberrys.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
She's one of mine, too.

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's a rather neutral sounding name... not like Reese Witherspoon or Calista Flockhart or some combo like that that's distinctive, with a rare fn and rare ln. I don't think it's a big deal to use your chosen name.

I honestly have no idea who Erica Christensen is though.

I would seriously recommend looking in to alternatives, seeing as I once met a kid called Michael Jackson, and everyone automatically assumed that his parents must of named him after the famous guy, and we all said to each other 'I think I'd kill my parents if they named me after someone famous.'
We were 12 at the time.

[identity profile] glitterberrys.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
You have a point, but Erika Christensen is neither as well-known or notorious for weirdness as Michael Jackson.

[identity profile] quiet-recluse.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but the thing is you never know what a celebrity is gonna do next; I still remember the days when Michael Jackson used to be popular.

[identity profile] glitterberrys.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Also a good point. And Erika Christensen is a Scientologist, I believe, so you just never KNOW...

[identity profile] invisiblepet.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Remember MIchael Bolton in Office Space!! He probably would've killed his parents.

Use it as a middle name. Or if enough people really don't know her, don't worry. Is she honestly still around?

There's an Xavier Roberts in second grade at my school. There's also a Stephen King in first grade (he has no middle name). Most people wouldn't understand the Roberts' one, but the Stephen King one....I'm hoping the parent is a diehard fan.

I used to LOVE the name Bryan, swore to myself I would name my first son that and nothing would stop me!! Well I married a guy whose last name is Bryant, and I just am not going to be that kind of parent..."Bryan Bryant." Blech.

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
But I think that's a good thing actually... if you like a name (e.g Bryan, Christian) and then end up marrying someone whose last name is too close to it (Bryant, Christiensen etc)... then chances are, you ended up with a last name that you love, and even though your son can't have that as his first name anymore, he still has it in his last name. There are some really unfortunate last names out there...

Maybe I'm sheltered, but I've never even heard of an Erica Christensen.

[identity profile] glitterberrys.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that Erika Christensen will be "big" for long, honestly, most young actors fade after a few years. And if you both agree on a name, why not use it? I'm sure there are plenty of Elizabeth Taylors, Kate Walshes and Sarah Gellars in the world, too - not like your name is DeHaviland (oh lawsey, I butchered that name) and you want to name your child Olivia, you know?

[identity profile] composure.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
So I guess you'd rule out Hayden too.

[identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of Erica Christensen. I don't think Erica's all that popular - I say go for it :)

[identity profile] amandavanessa.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Who?

[identity profile] jennifergroovy.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Erika Christensen spells her name with a "k," not a "c." If you use the name, I would spell it differently than she does.

No
Erika Christensen (it's already taken.)

Yes
Erica Christensen
or
Ericka Christensen.

[identity profile] jennifergroovy.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
yw.

I like what an above commenter said about it not being unusual, such as Reese Witherspoon or Calista Flockhart. I say go for it.

Good luck.

[identity profile] thejoysofjess.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'd stay away from it. I have a friend named Krysten Davis, and even though it's spelled differently, the first thing I thought when I met her was "Oh, like the girl on Sex and the City!"

[identity profile] smasharash.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even know who Erica Christensen is.
Also, it depends when your baby will be born. Even if you are pregnant now, by the time your daughter starts school everyone will probably have forgotten about her. And if you are thinking of names for further in the future, then no problem!

[identity profile] hitzpink.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Erica Christensen is not big and definitely won't be big when your baby is growing up (even if you are pregnant right this second), so I'd say go for it. As you can see, half of the people in this thread don't even know who she is. :)

If your last name was Hepburn and your favorite girl's name was Audrey, that might be something worth re-considering. But Erica Christensen is fine.

[identity profile] last-summer.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's fine, like others said she doesn't have an especially distinctive name. I only know who she is from Swimfan, and I doubt she'll be around in five years. I went to elementary school with a girl named Jennifer Lopez; I wonder how she's doing now, haha.

[identity profile] ciara-belle.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's a lovely name. Definitely use it if you want.

And actually, I'd associate it more with Erica Hill, who is on CNN.

[identity profile] whisperthewords.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Erica Christensen really isn't too famous, is she? I know who she is, but I'm a celebrity gossip junkie. I doubt most people would make the connection. :)

You could always pick a middle name that you really liked too, so if she were to become big, or to have some sort of scandal, you could swap the names!

[identity profile] baby-gidget.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
I have honestly never heard of Erica Christensen! And I agree with one of the above-posters that b/c it's more of a neutral name, people aren't going to be as likely to associate it with a famous person, ya know?

[identity profile] daveandmonika.livejournal.com 2006-02-02 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know who Erica Christensen is for the life of me, does that help?
