I dont have any kids and am not pregnant...yet. The boyfriend and I are hoping for kids in the next year or so, after I've finished uni.
We've already got the names picked (a bit ahead of ourselves) and I was wondering what people thought. We love them but we've had mixed reactions...

Boy:

Kacey William Alexandar
- William after my grandad
-Alexandar after my dad's step-dad and my great grandad

Girl:

Bethan Raen Alexandria
- Raen standing for Rapley Ansley Elizabeth Nicholson (all family names)
- Alexandria after a friend of my boyfriend

or

Eva-Rei Elizabeth
- Eva-Rei pronounced Ay-va Ray
- Elizabeth is a family name

Opinions?

Why the spelling Kacey? It looks a bit feminine for a boy. If you're going to use it for a boy, I'd go with the old traditional spelling, Casey. You don't want him to be teased.

Eva-Rei pronounced Ay-va Ray If it's pronounced that way I'd spell it that way:

Ava-Rei, or better yet:

Ava-Rae.

Otherwise she will always be called "Eee-vuh Ray."

I agree on Ava-Rei or I promise it'll get pronounced "Eee-vuh". I think Ava is beautiful. I'm not usually keen on hyphenated first names, but that one is adorable.

I think it may happen in the begining but people will get use to it, i mean it happened with my name, no one knew how to pronounce it when i was little and its quite common..

it happens but hey.. i know its the correct way of spelling and pronouncing it, i am a lil keen on ava but i prefer eva.

I agree - based on personal experience. My name is Eva, originally pronounced more like Ava.

However, after years of correcting people (both on spelling and pronunciation), I gave up. I now introduce myself as Eva (Ee-va) just to make it easier. Only my family and close friends pronounce my name the original way.

It's very annoying. I don't recommend it.

Really? People even screw up Laura?!
Gee, that's just dumb. Laura is such a pretty, classic name.

Alexander with an a looks like you didn't know how to spel it. Eva the way it's pronounced looks like you don't know how to say it. I don't like them.

I really really dislike the name Kacey. It just sounds so weak to me. For either sexes. I love William Alexandar though. I love both those names.

I don't really like Bethan at all, though I like Raen. And I lovelovelove Eva-Rei. But if you are going to prounounce it ava, you should probably spell it that way, or she's going to be correcting people all the time.

I like the name Bethan, never heard it before. It's nice. But it sounds funny with Raen since they end the same. I'd do Bethan Alexandria or Raen Alexandria.

Eva-Rei looks like it'd be pronounced Ee-va Rye to me. I'd do Ava Rae. The Rei part isn't as big of a deal though. But definitely Ava.

I like William Alexandar (and I love the spelling now that I read the story behind it) and I'd have him go by Alex, but I don't like Kacey. At least I'd spell it Casey if I used it, it looks more masculine.

I don't like the name Kacey. If you dropped that, I think the name would be fine.
Bethan looks incomplete. I think you should either go with Bethany or Bethann. I'm not crazy about Raen, but if you're going to use it, just use that without a second middle name.
I like the name Eva and the way you have it pronounced is the correct way, at least in Spanish. I don't like Rei at all. if you want to use it, I'd at least spell it Rae (the feminine form of Ray). But if I were you I'd just go with Eva Elizabeth.

Hey now, my name is Bethany. ;) But I think Bethann Raen is good without adding another middle name to it (that's what I meant before).
The spelling of Kacey isn't what gets me, I just don't like the name. I've known some real assholes named Casey/Kacey/Kasey and wouldn't want to associate any child of mine with that. But if you haven't had that problem, go for it.
And technically neither Eva nor Rei are Japanese spellings because they don't use our alphabet. That's just how they were transliterated at some point, so as long as the pronunciation was the way you liked it, you could mess with those spellings some.

Well yeah obvious, the japanese use the Hiragana and Katakana where as we have the english alphabet

The Boyfriends reasons behind all this

Boy:

Kacey William Alexandar

Kacey is more mascaline than Casey, sorry casey is a girly spelling and i think Kacey is more mascaline imo, Willian and Alexandar are both fine, i prefer that spelling as its something different.

Girl:

Bethan Raen Alexandria

Bethan is a name my girlfriend likes and i love it, Raen for the reasons and same for Alexandria, i love both names and i think they flow fine.

Eva-Rei Elizabeth

Eva is the japanese spelling for Eva and how it is pronounced, I love japanese names and culture, also love the double barrel of the Eva-Rei and Rei is also the fenamine and japanses spelling for Ray/Rae, Rae is also japenese but i prefer Rei as it's what i've know and loved for years,

thanks for the imput and opinions guys :D

Well, the problem with using the Japanese spelling of Ava is that you don't live in Japan! Believe me, she will be CONSTANTLY correcting people if you spell it Eva. Rei is also very iffy. Just looks too trendy, IMO. Ava Rae is cute, though.

Kacey William Alexandar- I think of Kacey as a girls name, i know it is unisex but it doesnt seem masculine to me.
William- Don't especially like but it's not bad. I think Billy is a much better nn that Will.
Alexandar- I like this name a lot, but is the 'ar' at the end purposely misspelt?

Girl:

Bethan- I dont like Bethan at all. I prefer Bethany.
Raen- Pronounced Rain? hmm this is weird...
Alexandria- Yes this is pretty, if not a bit 'ra-ra' but i like it.

or

Eva-Rei- I like Eva but it is most commonly pronounced ee-va, Ava is a seperate name (which i happen to prefer) Just go with one or the other, Eva pronounced Ava is annoying. Rei is awful... dont stick that on the end, just use it as a middle name.
Elizabeth- Love it, but I dont care for any nn apart from Elle.

I just read in a previous post why Alexandar is spelt the way it is. Honestly, i think that's a bit silly (no offence) It's such a classic name that nobody will ever spell it right/remember to once they've been told. & also, because it's such a classic it doenst look uniquely spelt, it just looks wrong & odd. I know you want to name him after your grandparents but just stick to the traditional spelling, they sound the same anyway.

I like Kacey William Alexandar and Eva-Rei Elizabeth.
I don't like Bethan, it just sounds wrong.

Why not Ava-Ray? I really don't like names made from other names/acronyms.

Why is it a problem to have RAE spelled that way bc its too close to RAEN but you can have Alexandar for a boy and Alexandria for a girl. I wouldnt want practically the same middle name as my brother. Just a thought!

Kacey William Alexandar -- Casey William AlexandEr. I agree Kacey seems like a girls spelling. I think Casey could go girl or boy, but Kacey really looks like a girl to me. I used to know the HOTTEST guy when I was in high school. He went by the ever cooler nn Caz (he was hot enough to pull anything off...) Anyway, I'll always like the name Casey for that reason. ;)

Bethan Raen Alexandria -- I like Raen is a stretch, personally. Cramming in everyname in your tree kind of dilutes the honor imo. But hey, I'm kind of strict on stuff like that. Otherwise sounds like a fine combo to me.

Eva-Rei Elizabeth -- I personally prefer the AY-va pronunciation too, but I know most won't say it that way, not in the U.S. anyway. Otherwise a fine combo.

I support you on the spelling/pronunciation of Eva...I am pretty sure Ava came into being when English speaking people kept mispronouncing the name. It will be an uphill battle for her though :-/ She will have to introduce herself as Eva with an 'e'. Best of luck, whatever you decide.

Monika with a 'k' ;)

Neat names. I was always thinking about what names I would choose and now that I'm pregnant, I REALLY have to make some decisions.

Speaking as a teacher, try to spell your child's name the way you want it pronounced. It's very difficult reading roll call when a name is spelled one way and pronounced another. Many people will call your Eva, Eva not Ava. Letters that make similar sounds are not that big of a deal, that's more of a preference. I think the most difficult is the vowel sounds.

Good luck at finding something you like! :)
