When parents disagree...

I'm new to the community and I joined because I believe naming a child is a very important process and shouldnt be just blown off. I am not planning on having children until I am married, but the problem is that my parents hate every name that I like. My boyfriend is African American and has lived his whole life in Mississippi, and I was born and raised in Europe and have lived in New Hampshire for the past 8 years, which obviously poses a few cultural differences. My boyfriend and I have come up with several potential baby names, but my parents are having trouble accepting names other than John, Peter, Catherine, or Ann. I want to find names that I different and special, but at the same time, not too "out there"... basically, I like unique names and spellings and here are my current favorites. Let me know if you know any other good ones, or if you like or dislike these:

Girl names:

Amaiia Marlee
Delanii Viera (the middle name is my mothers name, pronounced riVIERA, LOL hard to explain, its European)

Boy names:

Atreiiu (can't come up with a good middle name at the time, it will most likely be a family members name)
Aliijah Michael (middle name after my grandfather)

sorry to comment again but I just wanted to tell you that no matter what anyone else (even myself) says, name the kid what you want to name the kid :).

You are very sweet, and I do appreciate your input. As you'd probably figure, I do love the name Atreyu (no matter which way it is spelled, so kudos to your boyfriend :) ) and I really don't hate your boyfriend's choices in names because I had a friend named Ania in grade school and I do like that name. Plus I like Traziel since you could shorten it to call your child "Trey" which is also the benefit of Atreyu. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Naomi, and I do have to ask how you would pronounce Jael (like "jail" or "jay-el" or more like "Ji- el") because I like that alot whichever way it's pronounced. When it comes to "Eliot", I always picture this very handsome boy, so that name is definitely on my list of favorites. I'm not too hot about Zephyr or Harper (I just can't imagine my self talking to my newborn in that baby language and making that name sound cute, lol, but thats just me) and as you said, no matter what, you are the one that potentially has the last word in naming your child so :)

I like Anysa and Aniah but not together. I do like Traziel because it's from a book (ha.. don't remember which book though), but Clarence wouldn't want to call him Trey. Atreyu is okay but I wouldn't want the kid to be mistaken with the band. I pronounce (and so does my family) Jael as Jahl but LOVE the idea of pronouncing it Ja-il. I love Harper because TKAM is my favorite book! lol And yes... you definitely have the last say :).
