Mar. 4th, 2008 12:13 pmI don't know how many of you watch America's Next Top Model, but this cycle had two Amy's so one of them had to change her name. She changed it to Amis (pr. "aim-miss"). Wdyt?
Personally, I like how it sounds, but the spelling looks like a typo of Amy... or multiple Amy's. Also, I just did a search on the name, and apparently it's the name of the indigenous people of Taiwan.

Amis Pronounced Amos
Date: 2008-03-04 09:52 pm (UTC)When I first saw it I too thought it was a take on the French, which would have been great. But with a pronunciation like Amos? Yech. Puritan, Biblical, and old English associations are not what you want to think of with a top model. It was a bad call.
Don't think she'll last very long anyway.

Date: 2008-03-05 08:49 am (UTC)"Ah-mi" might sound pretentious, but that's better than dull in the modeling world.
The way she is wanting it to be pronounced is in sound and reality too close to something gone amiss.

Date: 2008-03-04 06:24 pm (UTC)Probably because we pronounce Aimee like Eh-MAY over here.

Date: 2008-03-04 06:52 pm (UTC)I know two other Aimee's that pronounce it like Amy.
However, I'm reasonably certain that the girls on ANTM say it like Amy.
