Sibset heard today: Bay Atlas and Oscar Hercules. WDYT? I quite like Bay, it's growing on me, but it doesn't really go with our last name :( (I'm assuming Bay is a boy in this case.) What are some of your favorite one-syllable names?

Also how do you feel about names and then using nicknames? My given name is Rebecca but since the day I was born my parents (and everyone else) called me Becky. But I hate that awkward moment when you're someplace new and someone calls you 'Rebecca' and assumes it's that but I feel weird being called that and have to say 'actually it's Becky.' It's also awkward if I have to initial something- do I go with BL or RL? Some children in my kindergarten class are known as Melissa or Olivia in school and seem happy with that but parents call them Missy and Livvy, respectivally.

My top three choices for names right now are these:
For a girl, Poppy Madeline, Nieve Jaime and Emily Grace.
For a boy, James Albert, James Geoffrey or Archer James (I'm undecided!) George Aiden and Brendan Kurt.

I was just thinking about this: So if someone has two first names (i.e. names like Mary Ann, Jean-Luc, etc.) do they have a middle name as well? I guess my question really is, if someone has a double name like that, does having a middle name become like having two middle names, or is the first name viewed as the first name and to have a middle name would be like having one middle name?

(I hope that makes sense).

A girl I went to high school with had a baby girl recently. They named her Anika Nora. Pronounced Ann-ih-kuh. I've never heard the name before but I think I like it.

Also saw a friend of a friend named Xain (Zane).

One of my regular guests at work is a little girl named Arwen. Thoughts?

I think a name like that is something you can get away with because it's not super crazy "out there" or too fantasy-ish, you know? Although I do have a friend who had to convince her friend not to name her child Frodo.
