Two sisters, the first is about 21 years old, the second is 18 or 19.

Kaylie (21)
Kaytie (18)

Kaylie is fine with me, Kaytie is just,.. not.

The great debate between my sister in law and my brother: is Erdene (pronounced Erdeen) too much of a country redneck name to be used nowadays? Ironically enough it comes from several generations back on my sister in law's Mongolian half of the family. It's the word for 'jewel' in Mongolian. My sister in law's great grandmother was named Erdene, so she really wants to name her daughter that. My brother thinks that it sounds redneck.

Your thoughts?

i'm 20 weeks pregnant and the sonographer says it's maybe-probably a boy. trouble is, boy names are WAY harder for us than girl names. the only one that we both like more than a little is elias.

what do you think of when you hear it? associations, etc? tbh, the name only occurred to us because we watched clerks II recently and i jokingly suggested it to my husband- only to realize that we both really liked it.

any other suggestions?

One of the 9th graders in my homeroom is named Hawley. Usually I hate non-traditional spellings, but I love it in this case.

Hawley has a completely different feel to me than Holly does.

One of my friends on Facebook is due in January.  From her status updates, I knew she was naming her son Eli.  Today she announced his full name:

Elihue David

Thoughts?  I've never heard this name before and I'm unsure how it's pronounced, but it simply looks strange to me.

Lina/Lena?

There's a student where I work whose name is Lina. I think it's so beautiful but it doesn't sound complete to me. What are some full names that Lina/Lena could be a nickname for? I was thinking of Carolina (prn Care-O-lean-a, not like North/South Carolina) and Catalina, but what other ones might work?

Also my boyfriend and I were walking around the store awhile ago and he overheard a little girl being called by her mom. Her name was Liliana (guessing on the spelling) and he said it was decided, that's what we would call our first girl. I like it, but I'm not sold. Luckily we're not TTC any time soon! What do you think?
