An acquaintance just had a baby boy named either Brycen or Bricen. I'm not sure since she has it spelled both ways on her FB and myspace. Lulz for that alone, right?

BUT here's the kicker...she also has a stepdaughter named Leighken. Do you think that's supposed to be a variation of Laiken? I hope so but what I'm reading is "Leakin'".

It wouldn't be so wtf if the last name wasn't Maple.

Leighken (Leakin') Maple.

Is anyone else having this problem? To get to this community I used to just type "baby names" into the search box in the upper right corner of the screen, and it would be in the first few results. Now it doesn't show up at all, hasn't for days and days now. I have to type in the whole community.livejournal.com/baby_names thing. What changed and why? Anyone know what's up?

the list... )

I need the name to be 3 syllables long and no more and need the initials C.G.  I'd love to narrow down this list even more, these were the last names that I narrowed down from a looong list. The name is for a young woman in her 20's, about to become a major sensation in the literary worl and from there, go to Hollywood when one of her pieces is made into a movie.

TIA y'all! :)

just read kate chopin's "the storm" for a literature class - what do you think of the name calixta? pronounced phonetically. I can't decide if I like it or not but it's definitely interesting to me!

Roman?

I'm due in June with a son who will be named Asher Roman(?) Sheffield. Asher is definite. Since I have chosen the first name, I would like to let my husband decide the middle name. He has recently fallen in love with the name Roman. It's never been on my top 10, but it's better than his other ideas (Achilles, Romeo, Cassius, lol.) So, what do you guys think of Roman? Also, please suggest other middle names that my husband might like. He wants something strong, masculine, and uncommon. Thanks in advance.

ETA: Thank you all so much for your opinions, but I wanted add that the issue of repetition has already been discussed in this entry and the general consensus was that it isn't too horrible. For what it's worth, we would not be using "Ash" as a nickname. Keep the suggestions coming! :)

My husband and I have had baby names picked out since September, but I'm still a little stuck on a second middle name question.

The background story is that I kept my own name when I got married. I don't regret it, but I do feel a little odd that the baby won't have my last name. Hyphenating is out because the name would be stupid long (Bukowski-Mangefrida) and because I just don't really like hyphenated names. So I thought that maybe I would use my last name as a second middle, just so that it's there, but not something that the baby would be saddled with using on a daily basis. Do you think that it's still too much? The name would be Aurelia May Bukowski Mangefrida or Dominik James Bukowski Mangefrida if I did it that way. All and all it really wouldn't be the end of the world if my name wasn't there, but it's something that just keeps niggling at me and with less than ten weeks left, I feel like I should really make a decision.

*Thank you guys so much! I'm feeling a lot more confident about this now!

I was watching TLC last night and came across some gems...

Brylin (boy) was on I'm pregnant and... (in Prison)

Jaigen (girl)
Makynli (girl) were both on Toddlers and Tiaras

All three made me cringe.

Shanda.

Haven't thought of her in nearly thirty years. She was the little sister to my best friend from when I was like four years old. Cute kid. Terrible name.
