So I met a family today...

Asia, a girl, 8
Aspen, a girl, 5
Austin, a boy, 3

Then there was another sibset:

Colson, a boy, 8
Brianna, a girl, 5

I like Aspen a lot, but the others, I don't know. I don't hate any of them, per se, but I found myself going, "Wow, talk about those trendy 30-something parent naming patterns!"

WDYT?

I am 28 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child and 1st boy.
The husband & I are pretty much 100% settled on the name for him: Emmett Edward
Our last name is Kelly, so his initials will be EEK, which I have thought about, but I've ultimately decided it won't be that big of a deal.
His big sister is named Elizabeth Malie (Malie comes from her godmother's middle name), and while I wasn't intentionally going for an "E" trend, I kind of like it. Should we have any more children, I doubt they will have an "E" name.
Oh, and FYI, my name is Jessica Elizabeth and my hubby's name is Matthew Edward.

The reasoning behind the names:
Emmett is my grandfather's middle name, and my grandfather was very, very special to me. He was more like a father to me, and I lost him when I was 14 to a stroke. :( His first name was Harry, which I don't much like, plus my dad is Harry, Jr., and I don't much like my dad LOL so I didn't really want to feel like I was honoring my dad, y'know?
Edward is the middle name that is given to every 1st born Kelly male in my hubby's family, and I like the name well enough to go along with the tradition.

HOWEVER. I know that these names are going to come off to people as having come from the failtasticever-popular Twilight series, which I loathe. I have already had a couple of comments about the name at a recent baby shower ("Oh, you must REALLY love Twilight, huh" "Actually, no, I despise it..."). :/

So... what do you all think of the name? Hate it? Like it?
Also, what do you think I should say in combat to the comments I'm likely to continue getting in regards to his name?

EDIT: Thanks for your comments & reassurance, everyone. It is greatly appreciated! :D

the name Stephen totally bugs me to read, because you can't tell if its supposed to sound like Steven, or Stefan, i know quite a few people with the name "Stephen" but i know a couple with each pronunciation... so how do you guys say it when you read it, if you don't know the person and how it is supposed to sound.

Marley Shelton had a baby girl today named West.

HUH? So masculine, and not even nice sounding at all...

My cousin and her family are in town over the holiday weekend, and she announced her pregnancy to the rest of us. She's having a girl due in January... And the name they have chosen is

Ehyana Sophia

EW. Ayana wouldn't have been so bad, but she spelled it for me... This is the first kreeaytiv spelling in the whole extended family too. The rest of their family is:

Carol Jeannine (my cousin, age 30)
Jason (her husband, age 31)
Skylar Lee (age 6)
Isabelle Faith (age 2)

A tiny but nice moment on the radio yesterday, made me smile.

It was a callback show, and one of the commentators speaks every so often of his kids, Archie and Eliza (both under two, I believe). One of his fans, a dear little old lady of about 70-80, rang to say how much she liked the names, because that they belonged to her parents...

Obviously the wheel has turned on these two names, but how far? What do you think of them?

I realized today that I like the name Pamela. Strip away every middle-aged woman I have ever known named Pam and all other preconceptions, and I actually think it is a very beautiful name. It also has a very lovely meaning, "all sweetness".

What do you think? Have you ever had any experiences like this with a name?
