My dad and I got into an argument last night over which name sounds better: Claire, or Clara.

Thoughts?

I like Claire better because, well, it's the name of a character that I write and because my mom has a friend who's a total bitch and her name is Clara. So Clara sounds like an old, gossipy hausfrau's name to me. The rising popularity of Claire in the last year or two is disappointing though.

In the interest of full and random disclosure, I have five hamsters and these are their names. None of them will be used on future children, I assure:

L.D. (short for Lord Denning)
Ovaltine
Milo
Widget
Poe

LD is named after a British judge, Ovaltine and Milo after beverages, Poe after Edgar Allen, and Widget looked like a Widget when I got him.

Husband's Family

I am not pregnant, nor are we trying (although I REALLY wish we were!) but my husband and I were talking about possible girl names. We have different tastes when it comes to names. He likes Amber, Tiffany, Emma...I like Madeline, Abigail, Lilianna, Ella...not too out there. He hates all of my names that I love!! He does like the name Lily which would be the nn for Lilianna. I just dont' like many of the full names that Lily would be a nn for. I'm not a huge fan of his names either...He did mentioned Cadence. As of right now, I am not sure about this name. It sounds pretty...what do you guys think?

Siblings for Sela?

I'm writing a story for which one of the characters is a 4-year-old named Sela.  She doesn't play a very big role in the story, but she does have a younger sister, and I'm having some difficulty choosing a name for her.  For what it's worth, Sela's middle name is Noelle, although it's never mentioned in the story (and can probably change since it's not entirely relevant).  So far, I've thought of using Simona, but I'm opened to suggestions.  It doesn't have to be another S name.

... on the name ROGAN for a boy?

I know its like Logan, but not... and I'm also aware that it could potentially sound like or be teased because of Rogaine... but aside from those two obvious things please share your thoughts!
Its Irish/Gaelic in heritage and I've become very attached to it in the last few days. I'm not sure what a middle name would be, possibly Rogan Michael MacD_____ .

We still have a few weeks before our ultrasound to determine sex, but I'm having boy feelings and want to be prepared :)

Our baby boy was born Monday, October 6th, 2008(2 days ago) at 9:30am, 7lbs 1oz, 19.5in!!! We named him Daylon Lorenzo :) Just wanted to give everyone the news who has dealt with my many name inquiries. Thank You all!

Hubby and I had our first baby on September 19 at 1:23 am.  He weighed 6 lbs and 13 ozs (waaaaay bigger than we expected seeing as I'm only 4'11" and weighed 125 lbs) and was 19.5" long.


His name is Jacob Cullen.

Hubby wanted a middle name beginning with "E" so that his initials would be J.E.T. but seeing as he picked Jacob and I had no say whatsoever, I got to pick the middle name.

My kid sister brought home her school newspaper today and I flipped through it out of interest. One of the articles was by a kid who talked about how he and his 3 brothers and father all prononuced their names the same way; they were just spelled differently.

Dad: Bryan
Kids: Brien, Brian, Bryn, and Briean

The dad also talked about why they chose the names: it made them feel closer.
