So, a friend of mine has a friend who just had a baby boy. They named him Kreston Daelan (day-len) samuel lastname.

I can't say I'm a fan.

WDYT?

My friend had a baby boy 4 months ago.

Kylin Amare.

I don't like it. It's not my style at all.

How do some names get totally associated with a place and some not? And why is it sometimes OK to use a name of a place as a firstname, and sometimes not?

examples:
Places as names:
  • London
  • Paris
  • Florence
  • Parthenope
  • Milan
  • Venetia

Names for places:
  • Adelaide
  • Victoria
  • Virginia
Cause of this? I love the name Adélaïde/Adélaïda, but himself rules it out because of the Australian place. It bugs me because it was named after an Princess Adelaide in itself... I like the sound of the name, and as a mediaevalist, it's one I have come across quite a bit.

My sister is due on Dec 31st.   It's a boy and they are tossing up between these two names.

Lincoln Aaron (Aaron being a family name)

Jake Aaron

Her preferred name is Lincoln but family members are already referring to the baby as stinky Linky.
What do you guys think???

I feel as if my list of names hasn't really changed in FOREVER. Therefore, I need new names. Would anybody like to make some suggestions? You can find my current list of names behind the cut. )

A few names I have seen recently:

Euphoria (girl)
Onix (girl)
Akias and
Akimas (twin boys)
Christina and
Christiana (twin girls)

Both twin sets are younger than 2 years. There is only 1 letter difference in each set. One letter. I feel sorry for their teachers. What do you guys think about Onix (or Onyx) and Euphoria? I kind of like Onyx, but for someone else's child! lol It looks odd to me spelled with an "i" instead of a "y." I just can't get over those twin sets. ::sigh::

Do you like any names soley for their meanings?
I'm really liking the name Akasha (Uh-Cuh-sha) which is Indian, and means space or sky.
I'd never actually use it, but iuno, there's something quite lovely about it.
So go. Name's that you like because of their meanings.

We are contemplating adopting this dog but we don't know what to name her. Right now they are just calling her puppy... Any ideas?

This is probably a dumb idea, but the kids are out and I am very bored.
I'm sure a lot of people know each other's name in this community, but it could be fun anyway.

Give three hints about your name, not too obvious and not too cryptic, and I'll see if I can guess it.
(Obviously other people can comment with a guess, too. :])

Here are mine:
- means heavenly, divine
- was #120 last year in popularity
- starts with a D, and has an N as the second-to-last letter

What do you guys think of the name Grady? Is it made up and/or cre8ive or is it legitimate? I heard it on Catch & Release the other night and I've kind of taken a shine to it. Only a small shine, but a shine none the less.

make as many names as you can using your first & middle name(s)!

the rules are:
- tell us your first & middle name(s),
- use only the letters from your first & middle name(s),
- can be male or female names, preferably both, as i'm interested to see what all people come up with,
- spellings can be kry8ve if you want.

have at it!
