[identity profile] sweet-caro1ine.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My sister is due on Dec 31st.   It's a boy and they are tossing up between these two names.

Lincoln Aaron (Aaron being a family name)

Jake Aaron

Her preferred name is Lincoln but family members are already referring to the baby as stinky Linky.
What do you guys think???

I agree! I like Jacob Lincoln a lot better than Jacob Aaron. Is she opposed to two middle names? Jacob Aaron Lincoln LASTNAME might not be too bad, if it all flows well.

Well, you can call the kid Jake. It's a nickname for Jacob so I don't see why it would be an issue. People would probably assume Jake's real name was Jacob and he would have to explain every time someone asked that his name really isn't Jacob.

I was about to mention this — like the one kid I know named Charlie. Just Charlie. I had a few university classes with him, and it was always this epic battle to explain, and in one case the teacher was ARGUING with him that he must be lying and just called him Charles the whole semester.

Jacob > Jake.

my friends sister just named her baby jake. not jacob. just jake. it bugs me.

my brothers name is chris (after my dad), not christopher, just chris. and he has been battling it his entire life.

My mom dated a J before she met my dad. He wasn't Jay or Jason or Jacob or anything. Just J. Bizarre.

Similarly, my grandfather didn't have a middle name, just an initial; the military kept trying to make up middle names for him, and he kept having to go back and have things corrected.

I like Jacob Aaron (but not Jake; Jake is too nicknamey to be a first name by itself), but Lincoln Aaron seems...too presidential? hahaha. I don't hate it, but I feel like maybe it's a little bit TOO recognizable as a last name, and when he's in school, he's going to get called Honest Abe and stupid shit like that because kids will think it's funny.

I like:
Jacob Aaron (if she's going to use Jacob not Jake)
otherwise,
Lincoln Aaron

I like Lincoln Aaron and I don't see a problem with nicknames like Linky and Link. In fact, if either of them are gamers, the nickname Link is actually pretty cool.

Agreed. I'd go with Lincoln, and call him Link for short.

I prefer Lincoln.

Jake and Jacob are so freaking boring. He will be one of MANY Jakes at his elementary in a few years.

I prefer Jacob, but I think it's kinda nasty of the family to be making fun of her prefered name already :).

I like Lincoln too. But if she must name the baby the other name - make it Jacob and not Jake! The baby's father NEVER has to call him that and it will make the kids life sooo much easier. Especially when he applies for schools and jobs.
