How would you spell Noel to make it rhyme with Lowell and have people know it's a boy not a girl or a holiday :-p.

But DON'T name your kid Anakin.
Jun. 7th, 2006 11:38 amSo last night, at the moment I put my book down to turn out my light and go to sleep - I instead went and started pulling Star Wars books off my shelves to look at the names.
Most of the names, even for human characters, are definitely on the "bad idea" end of the spectrum of made-up names. There are, however, a smattering of "real" names, and some very lovely "made-up" ones, I think.
I made a list using selected Dramatis Personae from the New Jedi Order and X-Wing series, and tossed in a couple of other favorites.
( What do you think? )

Jun. 7th, 2006 12:41 pmHey, I'm Jana. I had a few questions about names that I need some opinions on.
I really like the name Cassandra but from what I've seen it means "doom." I can't name any future kids Cassandra after finding out the meaning. I love the sound of Elias but I am not religious at all and the meaning is very much so. Are meanings of names important to you when you choose a name for your child? If not, do you just not research the name or do you find out what it means and then disregard it?
Also, I have a few names I am in love with (Blythe, Mitra, Caleb, etc.) but who remind me of people in my past. I don't necessarily want those people to think I'm naming my future kids after them (especially since they are pretty uncommon), but I also don't want to shy away from them just because someone I know has that name. Would naming them the same thing as friends, coworkers, or past acquaintances be a bad idea? If you do go about naming your kid one of those names, how would you explain it the person with the same name?
Thanks!

Do you still like your kids names?

Jun. 7th, 2006 07:49 pmHey everyone,
So, I'm pregnant (due in late August) and it's a girl! Yay for girls! You've all got to tell me what you think of the name Belladonna Rose honestly, okay? By the way, I would rarely call her Belladonna; I'm going to choose either Belle/Bella or Donna and pretty much stick with that one as what she'll go by. Here are my three reasons for choosing it:
1. My favourite band is Belle & Sebastian. I want to name my daughter after them, but Belle is kind of... too short and too common for me.
2. (Yes, I am a massive fangirl. I can't help it!) One of my favourite fictional characters and role models ever is Donna(tella) Moss from The West Wing and I would love to name my daughter after such a strong, beautiful, compassionate, intelligent and funny woman (yeah, I'm aware she's not real!), but I'm not big on the name Donna by itself.
3. It means "beautiful woman" and what girl wouldn't like to be called that?
So yes, there you are. Rose as the middle name because it's my best friend's name. Do you guys think it's all right?
