What do you think of any of those? Anything too cruel? Can anyone think of nice permutations of those names that I haven't listed?

Matthew is my brother's name, and John is my father's name, although I prefer the Scottish version (Ian) if I'm going to use it.

Stop naming boys Ethan! I'm only kidding, of course. ;) But I have loved the name Ethan since I saw the movie All I Want For Christmas when I was 7 years old; I was determined to name my first son Ethan. So I hate that it's become so popular, even though it's a great name! Has anyone else had this experience, where you really love a name, but it has surged in popularity? I hope the Ethan hype dies down when I do eventually have children in a few years. ;)

Has anyone had any problems with the issue of family names?

I have names on both my side & my boyfriends that should be used for boys names, Charles on mine and John on my boyfriends- but he prefers the gaelic version, Ian I'm being very selfish though, i dont mind Charles as a middle name so much but i can't stand John/Ian. Especially Ian & he wants to use it for the first name- (is obsessed with the idea)- i have an uncle named John who i dislike an awful lot, he was named after his brother who died as a baby- for those two reasons i dont think it's appropriate.
I know its hugely selfish but if I hate the names with a passion then I have to put my foot down! Right!? There should be compromise but he couldnt have picked worse names for me to agree too...I wouldnt make him agree to a name that he absolutely hates.

I'm thinking Ethan Alexander (Alexander is his brothers middle name so its sort of a family name & Ethan isnt popular in England...I'm hoping it wont catch on from America!)
