Date: 2007-12-29 05:11 pm (UTC)I couldn't use it because 'lira' (prn the same as the 1st one) used to be the italian currency before euros, and it would be silly.
However, truth be told, Marco and Franco are very common italian male names and also the names for german, french and swiss currencies.

Date: 2007-12-30 09:55 am (UTC)oh right, so in english too they're both currencies and names!
Hadn't thought of it! haha
the italian names, however, are Marco and Franco, while 'il marco' and 'il franco' (marchi and franchi plural) are the currencies

Date: 2007-12-30 12:31 pm (UTC)I doubt it would matter anymore though, considering France, germany and Italy now use the Euro.
Most kids growing up now would never have heard of the old currency.

Date: 2007-12-29 08:51 pm (UTC)I really like it when it's pronounced that way, but Lye-ra is actually beginning to grow on me too.

Date: 2007-12-29 11:17 pm (UTC)The only thing that bothers me is the scene in The Amber Spyglass, where the harpy screams "Liar! Lyra!" and they end up indistinguishable.

I'd had it on my list because of the Northern Lights character anyway, so I was very happy when she chose it after Lyra spent 24hours as baby Ava. (I bit my tongue as I thought it was going to sky rocket, and it did!)
